Thank god, Lippi received got the reality check. You cant win such a competition with an 36year old Cannavaro in defence (vs. Kaka, Fabiano, Robinho) an half injured Gattuso who is unable to play for 90 minutes and an out of form Luca Toni who in the moment is unable to score from the goalline.

I hope this is a wakeup call to make some changes. I really don't think italy have the players to be that competative anymore. It's just the sad truth. Brazil is and always will be the team to beat. Even teams like argentina have their ups and downs but I find brazil have a lot more talent to choose from. I mean they still have talent like adriano and ronaldinho they won't even callup meanwhile we're depending on cannavaro and gattuso .. c'mon. Even if you brought in players like cassano, foggia, balotelli or whoever .. it wouldn't have changed much. One thing is for sure I do want to see foggia on the NT because he deserves it.

I find teams go through cycles.... They are strong for a period then go through a turnover where they have to introduce new youth to integrate and experiment with... France and Italy are going through this period right now. But IMO, Brazil hardly sees this cycle.

Same thing will happen to italy in the world cup......they were lucky in the first game.
The team needs an overhaul.

Brazil, spain will be a final to watch.

Hey Lippi, keep playing Camoranesi and Pepe over Foggia and Cassano, maybe in the WC Italy can get smacked around again. It's not even worth discussing.

Lippi said he is not taking this team to the world cup, said it before and after the confederations cup. Lippi even came out of his arrogent shell and said new players are needed. This will NOT!! happen again to italy if the right players are called up. (Pazzini Cassano Foggia and i would LOVE to see Ballotelli)

Last night was pretty hard to swallow, but not unexpected. For me its a combination of poor squad selection and a ridiculous formation. 4-3-3 against the USA with Iaqunita down the wing was unbelieveable for words, they should revert to 4-4-2 and at least then the defence would not have been so haplessly exposed with Zambrotta, whos pace has gone, and Dossena, dreadful doesnt begin to describe him, providing offence down the wings.

Pirlo for me has to stay, for me he was the only one last night to provide any threat whatsoever, with Montolivo failing again to provide it against top quality opposition. But it would not have mattered even if the midfield had been fantastic because the forwards were terrible. Toni is simply abysmal, provides no attacking threat and cannot be in the squad next year. A lot of it comes back to the formation though I feel, having Iaquinta again out wide is just pointless, confirmend by Lippi as well when he took him off after 35 minutes.

What can be done, I think Pazzini, Cassano, Foggia, Motta, Santon must all come into the squad. Giovinco and Balotelli should be at least tried out at this level to see if they can cut it, and I think they both can comfortably. He should have used this tournament to try new/ up and coming players rather than ones that were past it or simply not good enough.

How can he ignore his clique from juve and the old guys he loves alot?
Come on....he cant. they make him optimistic but he should face reality........the reality is that pirlo, cattuso, buffon, camo and more have nothing much to offer.
i will advice him to resign if he got no guts to enforce changes.
