Cheeky penalty from Pirlo! AtDhe has a good set of links also for 2nite. Though maybe Foggia may have come on for Di Natale, but Pepe instead. i hope he gets a run out!

This is a strange qualifying campaign. Paraguay leading in south america, while portugal and france not in pole position, and scotlands loss may have given macedonia hope again as they are one game behind.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Lichsteiner might have been the only Lazio player that played this weekend.

We have ruin our chances Latius against Iceland. We lose a game we should win, now we are facing this Wednesday against Holland.

Everybody here are against corrupted FFM (football federation of Macedonia) and that's why we can't improve on international scene. Our football is on lowest level since out independence.

You never know what can happen .. afterall look at where France is sitting in their group, they are in similar positions if not worse off than macedonia.

I'm so sick of watchin Scotland bow like that to 'stronger' nations, we should at least be proud in defeat. Enough to make a Scotsman sick! Nothin brave about the performance against holland and now we HAVE to beat iceland and win the rest of our games (sorry jofo)

Sorry for the Scots! I'm ecstatic how my ancestral homeland, Northern Ireland, are doing, but I'm sure we'll miss out once the Czechs and Slovaks play out their games in hand. But enjoy the moment!!!

This French team is the worst we have seen for 20 years. The coach Domenech is unpopular due to media interventions and the results. The players are considered like international stars whereas they are just good players in French Ligue 1 (and it's not a reference I think), Benzema for exemple.
There is no respect for the supporters. For exemple, no players come to sign autograph or to meet supporters at the end of the training.

And the French media seems to be all against the French national team. If I consider our qualification group, I think Serbia is better. Our team is too young and immature to play a good fotball.

Since France won the world cup they are being quite shitty. What is the problem. The squad is great, coach maybe lousy but c'mon those results are disappointing.

Is football in Europe on NT level going down compared to the South American empires (Brazil and Argentina). Just look at France and England.

Football around the world is getting better and is starting to level out more.  Europe particularily England has been saturated with foreign players, In Brazil they have too many players and they have become a factory at supplying teams around the world.  The african nationals have imporved as well.  With national teams there are some real wildcards becasue no one is used to playing against one another.  Once teams do win the world cup overconfidence lack of motivation may be a factor.  Many of the players on the Italy winning team have vanished in terms of star power.  Teams like Russia and Greece have shown that it is team cohesion that makes a weaker nation have strength over some of the powerhouse nations.

I really don't think it's true to say that South American football is catching up with Europe I mean I'd still expect teams such as Scotland, Macedonia and Serbia etc to beat teams like Bolivia, Peru and Ecudor etc i think it's more true to say that Europe and Brazil and Argentina are pulling away more from the rest of the world (and when I say Europe I mean initially teams like Germany, Spain and France) I mean we've talked a bit about France's decline (and England's  sorry) but to be honest how far are they from Argentina in terms of quality? And they are by far better than pretty much every African and Latin American team (with the exception maybe of Mexico).

I agree, in terms of the national sides aside from the European giants perhaps only Brazil and Argentina can challenge next summer. The winner will likely come from Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Germany or France. I know France have been poor but they still are producing great players, Benzema, Ribery, Gourcuff etc. Holland, England, Portugal are outsiders for me as they are all lacking something in some department but I agree to a point that things are improving elsewhere, maybe Ivory Coast can make a decent run if they avoid a group of death again.
