I really don't want to start a whole other personal war again (but given that the mental midgets that caused most of the problems are gone now...). Anyway, I got to thinking after readin Pia's glib remark on another thread about how there was a time "when all the threads got a little retarded around here". I assume he was referring to the Pandevite days. And that reminded me about the rumour I've heard repeatedly, and was discussed at length the other day on Radiosei from Rome, regarding Pandev going to Genoa. Now i recognize that Pandev is persona non grata in Rome, but as a cautionary tale he resonates. The guy goes to Inter and within a year and a half falls into Serioe A oblivion.  So the question is, was it really worth it? There's no question he prospered economically, but I'm not so sure he did so professionally. The Inter fans have come to dislike him, even despise him and the guy can't show his face in Rome, and even though he was on that magical Mourinho squad, let's face it, he wasn't a integral part. Boh?

I think an extension of this question is does anyone care anymore? No I think is the answer even though I'm realistic that all players come and go, but to indulge it a little I would say that he was never going to be a key part of that Inter side, he was a makeweight who was sacrificed to put in the dirty work rather than actually playing up front. But he won every major club title, European Super cup aside, which is an impressive thing to be part of. That said, Inter would have done it without him no question. Ultimately, he's not good enough to lead the line for a big club, he never was frankly.

He got a Serie A medal and a Champions League one, but at the end of the day, he destroyed his career while at it. I don't think he'll ever be the same Pandev that played alongside Rocchi here... but a solid Serie A striker, like an Acquafresca or a Floccari. That's him now.

A player usually has 3 goals, to play for a big team, to win medals and to make a shitload of money. He accomplished all 3.

it was clearly worth it. Having stayed at lazio he would have made less money and never have gotten the experience to play on probably one of the best teams in the world.

He's accomplished enough and playing for a team like Genoa isn't a bad career move. They are a pretty motived team despite how they finished this year .. they did better than us the year prior. But after Genoa his career isn't going anywhere.

I still think Pandev is a Lazio hero despite his contract negotiations gone sour having to deal with lototti.

Latius//If a player leaves Lazio as a Bosman against the club's will then he is as worth to me as a  player...

But that's just me.

You're right, 365, in that it doen't matter specifically as it regards Pandev - but it does matter in a greater sense.. Radu has to get major respect from all of us given that he could easily have left and didn't because he believes in the team and is attatched to the colours and the fans. Muslera, on the other hand, wants to leave and doesn't even have the respect for the team or the fans of a Kolarov or a Rosenhal, who left with some class and didn't simply say, "screw the team, I'm looking out only for myself and the bottom line". If we're not going to make a distinction between these types of players, and extol the Kolarovs (who, btw, said recently, he carries Lazio and its fans in is heart and would love to come back some day) then we can't really complain, as fans about loyalty, the evils of modern football and all that.

I do not care about Pandev or what happened anymore but I still believe that Lotito, in principle if not quite in practice, made the right decision when he froze Pandev out of the squad. I doubt Lotito is capable of moral decisions, of course, because I have a reputation to protect, but you get the point. Just wanted to say that because at the time of the conflict the discussion on the subject often became quite retarded.

If I were Pandev, I certainly would feel at a loss with myself. It must have been worth fighting for because he won, but, he played half a season for a team that was destined for glory and basically harvested the crop others had sowed. Then he faded into oblivion within the squad and now he is getting the boot? I would always have a nagging feeling inside when looking at my trophies if I were him. Still, he had a good career with us and was at a point where yearning for more was understandable. He failed but at least he can feel good about using and getting something out of that one shot at glory. Mah.

Generally, it is a good topic of discussion. Latius' view on the goals of football players is really rather cynical and if it were true his words might just as well be etched in stone. End of discussion. But I am a hopeless idealist and players like Radu, indeed, fortify my beliefs. I had more things to say but I am suffering from dementia and I feel sleepy.

Amen. Just because the majority live in kali yuga doesn't mean, we all do. Someone must resist the temptation to take the low road. Virtues must exist. Forza Stefan!

Was it worth all the fuss? No. Is it really ever? No.

But that is secondary. We get so excited and uppity with circumstances like this because we love our team and colours, and we cannot stand for anything that affects or effects the team, our players or the overall professional image and output of the club and management. The state of sports in general is lead by nothing else but opportunity and money. It is very hard to find players who are not mercenaries in any professional league.

Did Low-tito do everything right? By no means. But it is hard to convince someone driven by nothing else than money that there are things that supercede the financial circumstance, especially when management is bearing down on you. Players come and go. I am just happy that all the Pandevites stopped posting their senseless propaganda here and probably found an Inter board somewhere...Where they will do a similar evacuation.

^^ Damn straight! I get defensive when I perceive offense to our beloved essesse!

As for the pandevites, I did some snooping, and found them on an inter forum where they were getting ripped by other members for being Pandev and not Inter fans. So there you go.
