So watching the game yesterday i though to myself that this formation may be the best option for the rest of the season for a few reasons:

1) We are very short on strikers right now and i dont think we can afford to put 2 on the field at the same time.. i would rather have Klose start and rochi come in full of energy for the last 20 minutes or whatever

2) Hernanes is much more effective in this formation as he acts less as a ball distributor to the 2 strikers and more as an offensive midfielder with easy acces to the goal area.

3) this is the way Germany has played with Klose in the world cup and his results were fantastic as we all know

4) Ledesma and Matu in the back together make for an amazing supporting duo with their deffensive abilities and setting up a good counter attack when the opportunity comes

Are you with me?

In my opinio, as I already told, this is a massive team play formation, to keep the back very tight and the attack very fast as all of the 3-1 can act as counter strikers... The system of the decade IMO, as Real Madrid and Germany made it to perfection..but you need a good balanced team though!
We have it, but could make a huge jump in quality though, to reach the top level!
So I agree

I certainly wasn't expecting it to work that well yesterday. It certainly fits Reja's mentality a lot more but it require guys like Lulic and Gonzalez who were tracking back 50-100m. Not sure they'll be able to play like that twice a week.

I agree that this formation is good for us yes.. The two defensive midfielders help in defending and this is good but due to the characteristics that Ledesma and Matuzalem have (they both have good set pieces and they both can pass well and play like ''playmakers''-trequaristas ) made them automatically like two extra attacking midfielders (apart from Hernanes) when we are in attack..In the modern football this kind of players (like Xavi,Iniesta)that can pass, cut, organise, mark etc etc and the midfield area in general, are the key of success...Also the two wingers can easily move up front to help the solo forward and the formation can be changed to 4-3-3 in that case... Considering though that we don't have many forwards that time we have less risk of losing them both if they play together in a formation with two forwards...

I just think that hernanes played incredibel yesterday and thats mostly thanks to the formation since he was much more involved in attacking because defences could not jump on him with 2 or 3 players like the have been doing all year

Sure, due to our lack of options we do not have a choice but to play either 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1.

i think a big part of the win was gonzalez, ludic and hernanes playing together strongly in the midfield.  3 midfielders should be enough and our defense has been playing well.  i don't know how the sporting directors traded away cisse AND sculli and didn't pick up anybody to fill their positions. reja needs to be tougher if he wants it to be his team. lazio actually just contacted me about the coaching position.......
