                    MISSING
                    Hernanes
   2009                              2011 sketch

If anyone has seen the real Hernanes, please report it to Lazio managament. Lazio and his fans miss him.

It seems Hernanes is still on holidays from the offseason in his own little world and Lazio has been suffering. The success we have had this season is very little help from Hernanes and Klose seems to be a one man army up front. When Hernanes had arrived last season, there were games where he dictated what went on in the midfield and in our attack and there were games where he was also absent. Like I mean, if he walked off on the bench nobody would have noticed. It got written off last season as he was tired from finishing the Brazilian league with Sao Paolo and this was the season he would be rested and at his peak especially since he did not play in the Copa America with Brazil. I was so pleased with Hernanes' on the games he did show up I even spent over $100 to buy his jersey.

Now with the Christmas break approaching, this season so far he has diminished on the field even worse than last season. It's games like the previous game that has just passed like against Lecce where Hernanes quality should have taken over and outclass them, he disappeared and if anything contributed to Lecce's strong game. So far hes got 3 goals and 1 assist after 12 games but 2 of those goals were penalty shots and his assist came from Novara where that game we could have won with 8 on the field. Not to forget that Hernanes has been awful in Europa League as well and such a quality player like Hernanes is depended on for these smaller Eastern European teams. Perhaps I am expecting too much out of Hernanes but I am very frustrated how he tends to fuck off in very delicate situations and has been very disappointing this season for my expectations of him. He's not the only one who does it (Ledesma) but I expect more from Hernanes especially.

Im sure Hernanes will come around and step up his spirit on the field. I believe in him and in this team to compete with the best. Every time Hernanes lets us down, I ponder how much longer Mauri will be out for to be our hero, or I ponder if Lotito will take put in a bid for a podolski or ederson to depend on them for our Lazio attack down the stretch of the season where Lazio got burnt last year.

Interested to see what how many of you guys agree about Hernanes not only this season but also since he has came to Lazio.

First off, that comparison to butthead is classic ..lol

This guy is still one of my favorites, but i have to agree he's taken a big dip in quality compared to last year.

Maybe teams have learned from his good performances last season and have a better idea how to defend against him. With Hernanes obviously having such great ability with the ball he should not have been affected so much though. His direct free kicks have rarely troubled the goal either which is also very disappointing.
I think, as much as it is up to Hernanes to find his good form again, Reja has to find a way to use him more effectively, because we can't carry players if we want a champions league place. I do think he will improve because of our great team spirit, everyone will be encouraging him and Cisse to play at their best and confidemce will still be fairly high since we're still winning matches.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone else agrees with this:

When Hernanes is on the ball, face to face or in close challenge with an opponent it often results in the opponent tripping or tackling or pushing him over. If not, but there is a slightest of touches, Hernanes way too often still stumbles and falls as if he is doing that on purpose, fishing for a free kick. He is either fouled, pretending to be fouled, or stumbling on his own feet rather excessively. This happened last season too but has only increased in my opinion.

Κnowing is the half of battle yes. When the opponents know Hernanes' style of play, they can easily block him and not allow him do his best..This is one point. After last year's perfomances, the opponent defenders have seen how Hernanes play, pass, take free kicks and found a way to stop him in many occassions...Moreover,since last year he has not miss many games to rest or be out from injuries. He plays in every game most of times the whole 90 minutes..Without been able to rest when he came from Brazil last year, this condition of being ''rusty'' is a normal result. This period also, without any player to play at his place in order to rest him (Mauri is out,Foggia is on loan and we don't have many players to play as attacking midfielders) he is the only who can play in the place 1 in Reja's formation 4-3-1-2,behind the two strikers..The only way to see good old Hernanes is resting him ether by changing formation and leaving Hernanes on the bench or buy another player in January...

I think there are a few factors that sum up his off form condition. From psychologial aspects, south american temper-when they are inspired, they are brilliant. He is played out of his position, he doesn't have that creative qualities a trequartista needs, he can't slide that ball through defendes, we need Mauri back for that position. Aside from that, he is the only player that can hold the ball in the midfield, but he doesn't have anyone to play with. He needs some players around him, because everytime he looks to play the ball with someone, he has to pass either far forward for a striker or backwards to ledesmagonzales. I tend to exclude the fatigue as a reason for his performance. I mean Messi plays everywhere, anywhere at Barca, does that make him sluggish-no and he is not the only example by far.

He needs Mauri back and some other decent midfielders around him. Ledesma and Gonzalez suck. Hernanes has had some good games tho. I though he played well against Juve but overall he's been lackluster.
