We need to start discussing our hopes and whatever thoughts we might have for the coming season. Personally, I feel like it could be the beginning of an era of greater glories than we have enjoyed in recent past. Two trophies last year was not bad at all but I am looking towards an era where winning titles like the Supercoppa last season would not seem like beacons of light in the darkness but a natural result of playing quality football. Simples, really. In the light of last season that seems like a pipe dream but I have a good feeling about the next season becoming a new beginning for SS Lazio. Emphasis on the word beginning.

My actual wishes for the next season are rather modest still. What I hope is that we will be able to compete in the league head to head with all the other teams and play consistently enough for an assured top 10 finish. That, really, is good enough for me at the moment. Muslera and Rocchi have spoken on the subject in rather lucid terms, the former saying Lazio should enter the new season like Uruguay did the World Cup, with great humility but with an awareness of the potential of the team, whereas the latter said that a return to Europe should ultimately be our goal, that apart from the top 4, our position in the league is up to us to fight for. We should not be fighting to get into top 10 but for a position in the top 10. That does not seem far-fetched to me.

Otherwise, there are a ton of things from formation and tactics, player selections, individual players' performances, Lotito's death etc. that should be brought into discussion.

I am cautiously optimistic in light of the Hernanes deal. Partly because of the strength of the player, but moreso, as I've said previously, because it illustrates a change in the club's ambitions. However, I really think it's the next move that matters more. If all we do is get Hernanes and dump a couple players then we're reaally only getting modestly better. If on the other hand, we pick up players like Boeteng, Almeida, Santa Cruz etc. to mention only some players we've been linked with (leave aside personal likes and dislikes, tactics and strategy and focus on the perceived quality and general perception of the players strength vis a vis cost) then I think we can really make a jump in quality. With Hernanes and a couple intelligent additions (like Garrido etc.) this team may reach a tipping point become a top 6 team instead of a top ten team - and there's a difference. I want to see what happens next.

After last season the idea of a midtable season without the onset of relegation seems like heaven. The signing of Hernanes, retention of Floccari and possible investment to come has however has perhaps given us the chance to compete with the likes of Palermo, Napoli, Genoa, Fiorentina, Parma, in other words teams that are pushing for a top half/Europe. Teams that are capable of beating one of the big three of Italian football. If we can take a scalp here or there, and finish in the top ten then after the last few seasons that would be progress. This, after all, is a very tough league and it will in all likelyhood take Hernanes time to settle. Other things I'd like to see are...

- return to form of Zarate. We're not in a position for 20 million to have become wasted.
- Coppa Italia run
- Three Rome derby wins

I want to see us bring some more talent now Hernanes is here. I want to see more goals from our forwards, at the same time a good defence more so than last season. If we can make top 10 I will be happy. A cup position even more so. But aslong as we thrash    I will be much happier.

my one greatest wish is to see lazio once again be a team that can and does beat the big clubs(inter, AC, etc) and for the love of Lazio, I want to see one or two derby wins this year make it three if you count the coppa.

This time we made some valuable investments that allow us to expect a better Lazio than the previous 3 year. Pretty much we got what we needed, so my main wish and concern is to see motivated and ambitious team, players with deisre for the win, fighting for points in every match, beeing competetive with the strong teams. Will be delighted to see Zarate back on track, as Lazio365 pointed out, it will be quite of a loss to us if he continues this way.

Well at least we learnt something out of the last season. On mercato, so far so good, we are dealing fine. I would like to see few more players leave and at least 1-2 new reinforcements. Hope we change that 3-5-2 to 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2, with Garrido on board chances of doing that are big. It will be good to see Lotito acting as a president and I hope he'll leave Reja out of him stupid mind games.

Anyhow, I want good atmosphere in the team and expect that to be repainted on the field. I'll join L365 and Debrez in their wishes. Let Lazio be surprise of the season. At least for once.

To be honest, after last year, I'd be happy with a top 10 place

I dont understand some of you's. Happy for the 10th place? So you guys are telling me that if we finish 10th place at the end of the season you guys can sit back and smile?

We do not belong at 10th place and don't have a worse team than others who finished ahead of us last season. Also we improved our midfield and we wont see Firmani or Baronio and limited play from Mauri. Matuzalem is back and God knows how long Foggia will be healthy for plus our additions, even if more are to come.

For me... Euro qualification. If we do not qualify to Europe then our season went down the drain. 10th place 16th place 8th place.. is there really a difference? Think about it. We should be aiming for 7th and with the squad we have IF certain players have their game clicking, it should be doable. Euro or bust.

It is possible, European qualification and we on the face of it have ability to fight for that. But then it is possible for a lot of teams in Serie A, so an interesting season is ahead of us. But last year was an absolute disgrace, diabolical. We may have finished 12th, but we went months without a win and spent time in the relegation zone. Lets not be too quick to forget that, and lets not get too far ahead of ourselves because there were times last season when it looked like we were gone. With that in mind, I can understand people accepting a comfortable season and being content with that. At least it won't be mental torture like last year.

I agree with Lazio365's post above. We might be capable of achieving something great but stating matter-of-factly we do not belong to 10th place and not qualifying to Europe means a failure is perhaps a bit too confident, or even arrogant, to my taste. As I said earlier, I do not fear the coming season, I am optimistic enough to expect us to fight for a position within the top 10 instead of getting there, so sure, if we finish at 8th place I will naturally be pissed off for getting so close, yet, I would regard the season as a great success. There is a huge difference between that and finishing 16th.

Well I wasen't going to contribute to this thread because I thought it was a bit of a silly question; after all, all our hopes and dreams are the same: We want Lazio to win as many as possible and play as well as possible.

However, just to pitch in on this debate about expectations, and whether we are being too cautious or whatever. I agree with Ed and 61514. There is a big difference between top 10 and not top 10. After all, we were flirting with relegation and finished 12. You do not flirt with relegation and come in the top 10. So, given the choice, I would always choose not to fumble about with the private orifices of relegation and get a good solid top 10. Also, the higher up you finish, the more money you get, even if it's only an extra 250,000 or whatever, money can't be shirked at these days, after all, that could be extra wage money split between some super stars, which means we can keep them for a bit longer rather then sell them.

Finally this; having not come into the top 10 for three seasons now, I would be happy with a place in the top 10. It feels much better to see us in the top half of the table then not. Luck and other factors can determine whether Europe can be reached beyond the top 10 - and for me, unless we get a couple more marquees, I cannot assume and therefore demand we get top 6. Henceforth I will not do anything stronger then demand a top 10 and let Reja and the players decide what happens after that.

Be in the first 4 and qualify in European cups, fuck  in both matches, get rid of the useless players by selling them and at last Merda-Lotito and Merda-Tare get the hell out of here.
Am I asking to much??
