I thought it was only the top 2 that get direct qualification?

Nope, Serie A still has those four CL spots and first three will qualify directly.

Our objective has changed according to Reja:

"NOI PUNTIAMO AL TERZO POSTO"

So now it is 3rd position in the league. I do not really care whether it will be 3rd or 4th but, of course, direct Champions League qualification is better than qualification matches.

The battle for the Champions league is furious. Our dream is still alive. Thanks to Amauri. hehe We must beat Juventus. This is the most important game for me this season.
These are my predictions for the rest of the season,

Next games:
Napoli: Genoa (W) Lecce (L) Inter (L) Juventus (L)
Lazio: Juventus (Win) Udinese (D) Genoa (W) Lecce (W)
Udinese: Fiorentina (L) Lazio (D) Chievo (W) Milan (W)
Roma: Bari (W) Milan (D) Catania (W) Sampdoria (W)
Juventus: Lazio (L) Chievo (W) Parma (L) Napoli (W)

Final standings in Serie A 2010/2011:

3.Lazio 70
4.Napoli 68
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-
5.Roma 66
6.Udinese 65
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
7. Juventus 59

I hope I am right

3 - Napoli (65)
4 - Lazio (60)
5 - Udinese (59)
6 - Roma (56)
7 - Juventus (53)

Standings as they are now. With seven points and four games I think it's save to say Juve are out. Even if they win vs us I can't see them finishing with 3 wins out of 4 which they need at least, they are just too inconsistent. Roma still need at least two games to catch us, next game for them is Bari away where they will probably get the 3 points. Then it's Udinese vs Fiorentina away. Based on current form, a draw or a Fiorentina win is most likely imo. So a win vs Juve could give us a a lead that we can't lose until the 37th round (If Udine lose). The dream of the CL is still very much alive.

A win against Inter would have made me feel a little more secure about the dream coming true. It is still very much alive as Laziogimp says but the next two games are going to be nerve-wrecking. If we win them, it should be easier to breathe in the last two.

No question the dream is still very much alive. Juve were lucky last night, lucky to get a penalty for basically nothing and lucky with the deflected cross that led to Del Piero's second. Justice was done when Lodi struck a beauty.

Roma concern me, simply because they have an easy game up next. But, they have Milan in the round after that in a game which could see them clinch the title. With that in mind I don't see them winning that.

Udinese are close but I agree with you both in that Fiorentina have been solid of late, consistent. Something that Udinese have not been.

With all this in mind a win against Juve really will give us a huge boost. If we do the same against Udinese then we will be very very close, and it could well turn out to be enough even without considering the chances to win against Genoa and Lecce, and we should do in both games there as well.

I'm optimistic.

^^ I'm glad you are man! I'm a wreck. Ok, seriously, obviously I'm much happier than I was a year ago (when I'd tear up when we lost) but I really do thnk if we qualified for CL this might be a big moment in the club's history. If we  qualify for EL, I still think we are seeing a big moment in this team's history, but it won't have the same impact - for financial and morale as a CL spot will. Anyway, I think it may ultimately come down to the Udinese game, as I feared. Fuck me I'll need sedatives...again.

After dropping the ball yesterday it really seems like we've blown it.  I already had my doubts when we seemed content to play a cricket match with Juventus but that's another story.  Now all that's left is my rosary, meds, and mathematical equations.

As it stands now both Roma and Udinese will finish ahead of us should we all somehow finish with equal points.  I'm just confused on what tie-breaker is used first.  Is it head to head? or is it which team has more wins?  As it stands now Roma is ahead of us although they have 17 wins while we have 18.

Basically a combination of both Lazio wins combined with a Udinese loss in the last 2 rounds gives us the edge over them.  However would that mean 1 Udine loss coupled with two Lazio wins and 2 Roma wins still put them ahead of us?

Let's sort out the math so then I can get back to my meds and prayers.

Head to head is the breaker, and as we have an inferior head to head against both Udinese and Roma, Udinese on away goals, we have to have more points than them to finish above them. Two wins for us to have any chance here, although as Laziogimp pointed out in another thread Udinese and Roma have trickey away trips in the next round. Irregardless, if we win against Genoa we go into the final day still in with a shot.

We definately need Udinese to lose one game or draw both their remaining fixtures, if they pick up four points then we cannot catch them. We don't necessarily need Roma to lose if we win both of our games, so long as they don't win both of theirs.

This is what Leaf fans do every year come playoff time, And now I find myself crunching these numbers.  At this point I'm happy with Euro League.
