what a performance by Lichtensteiner

I heard he played amazing .. i only caught less than 20 minutes of the game. But if you look at the last 10 minutes worth of subs you had all young guys:

81 - Mendicino - 18 years old
83 - Diakite - 20 years old
89 - Tuia - 18 years old
90 - Cinelli - 18 years old

Although I think Mendicino scored in another friendly. This guy might prove to be useful in the future.

Clearly we were'nt aiming for our top players to try and bring home a victory.

Lazio: Carrizo, Radu (Faraoni 87), Siviglia (Tuia 89), Rozenhal, Lichsteiner (Diakhite' 83), Matuzalem (Meghni 46), Dabo (Manfredini 69), Mauri (Zarate 46), Ledesma (Cinelli 90), Pandev (Foggia 62), Makinwa (Mendicino 81)

Excellent effort, really unlucky to concede so late. It's a shame, we had our young talent on the field and I hope they don't become discouraged. Liverpool are way ahead in terms of their preparation - they play a CL match next week and this was their last prep match. Lichtsteiner was VERY impressive and I thought that we began to look better as the second half wore on. I will say that Matuzalem dissapointed me somewhat, for a guy with his experience he seemed rather slow to react. Also, Diakite missed a sure goal from a few meters away. A good showing all in all - Forza Lazio!

btw, we were also missing Kolarov.

Based on individual performace

The Good

 Ledesma played very well defensively
Foggia is very dangerous down the flank
Rozenhal seems really solid to me
 Carrizo, safe hands
Lichsteiner or however it's written really impressed me, dare i say i prefer him to De Silvestri? Based on this game.

The Bad

Matuzalem didn't impress me (He deserves more time though)
Makinwa, to me he looks as if he doesn't know what he's doing, whenever he gets the ball i expect him to lose it
Mauri, if we can sell him... we should

The rest did alright Radu solid as always, Pandev dangerous as always, good strike from Zarate and some slick passing. Overall i'm happy with this performace although i think we deserved a draw, anyway it was harder for us to win.

I'm very optimistic for next season  00 00

Liverpool Edge Lazio As Keane & Dossena Make Anfield Debuts
Andriy Voronin scored at the death to give Liverpool a 1-0 win over SS Lazio at Anfield in their last pre-season friendly.

The kick-off of Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Lazio tonight was delayed until 20:15 because of ticketing problems.

New signings Robbie Keane and Andrea Dossena were making their Anfield debuts against Lazio, with Pepe Reina and Damien Plessis returning to the starting XI in place of Diego Cavalieri and injured captain Steven Gerrard.

But Andriy Voronin, only just on as a late substitute, kept his composure to fire a shot that dipped over keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo to give Liverpool a victory they deserved.

The win puts leaves them in good shape ahead of next week's Champions League and Barclays Premier League games against Standard Liege and Sunderland, respectively.

After just nine minutes, Fernando Torres fired narrowly over from 25 yards.

Italian full-back Andrea Dossena impressed on the left, particularly when charging forward, while fellow Anfield debutant shot wide after a good link-up with Dirk Kuyt.

At the other end, Stefan Mauri glanced a free header wide, before Yossi Benayoun gave Dirk Kuyt a chance just before the break but the Dutchman failed to make contact with the empty net yawning.

In the second-half Kuyt was foiled by Carrizo after good play from Benayoun and Alvaro Arbeloa, then Keane fired narrowly wide after another fine one-two with Kuyt.

On the counter, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa headed just over for Lazio, while Xabi Alonso saw a 25-yard free-kick deflected just wide and Daniel Agger forced Carrizo save well from the resulting corner.

Lazio substitutes Pasquale Foggia and Mauro Zarate both brought saves from Reina, but Voronin settled things in stoppage time.

Teams:

Liverpool: Reina, Dossena, Carragher (captain), Agger, Arbeloa, Benayoun, Alonso, Plessis, Kuyt, Torres, Keane. Subs - Hyypia, Ngog, Cavalieri, El Zhar, Voronin, Darby, Pennant, Insua, Finnan, Spearing, Nemeth

Lazio: Sorin, Radu, Siviglia (captain), Rozenhal, Lichsteiner, Matuzalem, Dabo, Mauri, Ledesma, Pandev, Makinwa. Subs - Zarate, Diakite, Tuia, Mendicino, Cinelli, Faraoni, Manfredini, Meghni, Foggia, Muslera

Didnt see the game but watched the highlights.  Looked like we had some decent attack at times with a couple of chances missed and that late-equaliser seemed like a pretty close one to call.  We had a minor breakdown on D that allowed them to score but overall I think we looked ok especially considering we never really had our real team out there.  bravo ragazzi!  00

Defeated Rossi Happy, Triumphant Benitez Frustrated
Lazio gave a good account of themselves despite losing 1-0 in a hard-fought encounter against Liverpool. And while coach Delio Rossi was pleased, his counterpart Rafael Benitez was decidedly less so...
Lazio have not had a particularly productive pre-season so far and were looking to improve in the difficult atmosphere of Anfield. The result may have been a negative one, but the Biancocelesti coach saw plenty of positives in the performance.

"It isn't easy to play a team that will begin their championship on Saturday, they were ahead in their preparation," explained Rossi, who guided Lazio to 12th place in Serie A last season.

The Italian tactician was satisfied with his team as they carved out some good chances through Stephen Makinwa and Mauro Zarate during the match: "I was curious to see how my team would react physically and mentally. I saw the right spirit. I am sorry for the result, but it was right to play our younger players who have been working very well."

While one coach was content, the other - Rafa Benitez - was clearly frustrated even though his side secured victory through a late Andrei Voronin goal. The Spaniard took the opportunity to talk about some of the problems he saw on the pitch and the transfer market.

"We clearly have problems on the left (of midfield)," revealed the former Valencia boss. "Maybe we will try to sign one more player if we can - I don't know when."

Benitez constantly alluded to an English player the club were looking at that can play in three different positions, but refused to name who it was. When the media suggested it was Gareth Barry, Benitez remained vague but did say the transfer "wasn't a question of money".

Liverpool begin their Premier League chase away to Sunderland next Saturday, while Lazio's campaign begins in Sardegna at the end of August to face Cagliari.
