Back into it then! Lazio begin 2011 at Genoa on Thursday (what a ridiculous time and date...). Genoa have unquestionably been one of this season's disappointments, but the do boast a solid lineup nonetheless. It will be interesting to see how our players, espescially Hernanes respond to the needed rest. Reja says he will be true to his go-to men, starting the same basic eleven with the only real uncertainty being whether he will send Ledesma or Matu in. 2011 starts on a good note as it seems Radu is back and ready to play.
Forza Lazio!

Exactly what I had said prior to this season started in the mercato thread. Saying that Genoa has a solid squad but will not improve in the rankings. All of you's were convinced that their offseason mercato was so great with Toni and Veloso Rafinhia ( wow) and that shit Portu goalie. I then said Hernanes alone was a better mercato than Genoa altogether. Yay for me. With Ranocchia gone to Inter, I think their back line is more vulnerable. They actually let in only 15 goals compared to Lazio's 16 but then again Genoa has not played since December 11 and has 1 game in hand. They will have to replace Ranocchia with Kaladze with Dainelli in the middle of the defense with Rafinha and Criscito on the wings. Lazio must capitalize on this defense to keep striving for the top of the table. Win ,as usual, is expected

I was convinced that Genoa had a better mercato. They spent more money. To know who hernanes was meant you follow the brazilian league .. which i'm convinced you don't. Sure people boasted about him but that's probably after doing the usual research of youtube clips and wikipedia. The other reason why i had no idea how good hernanes was, is because i follow only 1 team and don't a shit about any other teams on other leagues to form enough of an opinion on their players. There is only 1 team i'm dedicated to watching... Anyways, a win would be huge for us as the following week Juve and Napoli face off, and that would mean we can officially overtake the second spot if things go well. Glad Radu is back because by him not being in the mix through a wrench into the whole formation. By either experimenting or putting poorly experienced Cavanda's in his position... oh yeah then theirs that guy Garrido i heard we signed We need to stick to the same 11 as its the one that has brought us all the success. Hopefully our strikers can get back to scoring goals in the new year.

We now return to the 2nd half of the Serie A season (Well not literally since there are 2 games before the Ritorno stage of the Schedule) with many question marks surrounding acquisitions and departures. A return of redemption of sorts as we revisit the Luigi Ferraris stadium where we opened the campaign back at the end of August against cross-town rivals Sampdoria. Ironically on the market side of things Sampdoria seem to have trumped us for our much coveted prodigal son Federico “Chicco” Macheda on a loan-only transfer. For now we must focus solely on Genoa C.F.C. The Vecchio Rossoblu are the oldest club to set foot on a soccer pitch inside the boot-shaped country. Along with the historic confines they play in (Ferraris Stadio-oldest soccer arena in Italy) Lazio goes into the match a shout back of first place (33-36 points) however also a trip away from falling down the classifica. Hopefully La Befana got laid this year and is kind to Lazio to start 2011.

We've won here on our last three attempts since Genoa rose from Serie B in 2007, based on the season so far and with them loosing four times already at home this season we stand a good chance of three points I feel. Additionally, there is the Ballardini factor and a win would be all the sweater for that.

After Balla took over it's 3-1-2 for them. Also seems they have trouble scoring goals, four out of six winning games have been 1-0. In only 2 games out of 16 have they managed to score more than one goal. So defence is the key. Keep a clean sheet and hope for a Hernanes or Zarate magic to help us get the 3 points. In Reja we trust.

Just noticed, Inter are facing Napoli this weekend and I'm predicting a win for Inter as they have a new coach and have a lot of ground to make up for therefore this is our opportunity to officially overtake the second spot.
Genoa has conceded more goals than they've scored (GF 13 - GA 15) compared to our record (Lazio GF 26 - GA 16).
Ballamerda is now their coach, but he'll be out now to try and revive his tarnished name he made with us.
Ledesma was chosen over Matuzalem to start. I would prefer Matuzalem to star because he brings a more attacking dimension to the team and ledesma should be brought into the second half or if we're trying to help out with defense.

Reja looks set to field a 4-2-3-1 with Brocchi and Ledesma behind Mauri-Hernanes-Zarate and Floccari striking. I like this kind of stability.

it will be very hard game.we must do our best to win. If matuzalem is available i think he should play because he is younger than brocchi. He also raises our attacking power and his defensive quality is not worse than brocchi's. If im wrong please tell me

Not for nothing but Genoa hasn't played in an extended amount of games. Remember their last game was the derby with Samp that was snowed out, so hopefully they'll be extra unfit in match play.

Cannot wait for tomorrow. Ballardini has not really been able to harness the seeming potential of the Genoa squad so far, has he, so I have no reservations about winning this. Should not be too much to ask to keep a clean sheet as well considering their poor finishing. Their defense is tight enough, though, so we need our attack to be effective and use the chances we get. I was actually hoping we might have started the game with two strikers.
There has been a lot of talk throughout the season about us seeing the real Hernanes after some well deserved rest. I really wonder if it makes any difference. And what it is supposed to mean in practice. Remains to be seen. I am obviously content with him as he is.

We've been the better team in possession for me, and whislt we havent blown any big scoring chances we deserve to be in front for me. If we keep this up we should do well here.
