Thursday the 15th at 1900 local time (I like the numerology already!!). We open the EL group stage against Romanian squad Vaslui. The Romanian club is a new club, having been founded in 2002, but ambitious nonetheless rising steadily each season.

The club has two players known to Serie A fans in Gladstone and Adailton who make up two of the teams 6 Brazilian players.

I'm inclined to want less of a turnover for this match given that we need to start this thing with a bang (I don't want a repeat of Salzburg). A romanian team has only managed to win one game on Italian soil in a European competition and that was Cluj against le merde.

I hope we can start this campaign well, I'd like a good European campaign and this seems like the weakest team in our group.  Let's keep rioma's record unbroken!!

Reja looks set to move to a 4-4-2. Zauri, Gonzalez and Rocchi will likely start, Brocchi and Klose will not. No decision on whether Cisse or Kozak will combine with il capitano.

I would love to see this starting lineup (4-4-2):

Marchetti; Konko, Biava (Stankevičius if hes fit to play), Dias, Lulić; Cana, Ledesma, González, Hernanes; Cissé, Klose.

good chance for Cissé, Klose to score goals and get more confidence. We need them in this game.

I disagree, Klose and Cisse hardly looked as if they could play a full 90 mins. now you want them starting every game. I think this would be a perfect opportunity to try Rocchi or Kozak out along side Klose or Cisse. see what other parings work well.

by no means should this game be taken lightly but we should try and make good use of what little striking depth we have

^^ yeah it's early - let's not overdo it. Klose espescially has played a lot btween national team and Lazio, so he's got to sit. Cisse, probably less so, but still.

I'd like the following:

4-4-2
Marchetti; Konko;two of Biava, Dias, Stankevicius; Garrido; Lulic, Hernanes, Matuzalem, Gonzalez; Rocchi; Kozak

On the bench; Bizzari, Cisse, Ledesma, Mauri, Diakhite and whoever isn't in on the D. (Carizzo banned from enetering the city and at the very least outside the annulare!)

Depth is a strength and we should make use of it while we have it.  I hope to see Rocchi with one of Cisse or Klose with Kozak subbing on.  Would be nice to see us get a good lead then try out some youngsters, but that may be hoping for too much

The formation according to Lalaziosiamonoi will look something like this:

Marchetti;  Zauri (why...?) Dias, Diakite, Lulic; Matuzalem, Ledesma; Cisse, Mauri, Gonzalez; Rocchi

I'm quite satisfied with that with the exception of Zauri, I'd much prefer Garrido even though he is a shit defender because at least he gets forward and can pass the ball, plus he's no worse in defence that Zauri.  Lulic looked a bit of a loose cannon against Milan, but maybe he'll fare better against weak opposition (he looked ok in the friendlies against crap).  I really want to see Gonzalez have a good game, he has so much promise doing well in the Coppa America and needs to prove he is more than a squad player.  I'm sure Rocchi will get his 100th goal, I just hope I can find a good stream to watch the game (I signed up for ESPN and they NEVER show Lazio).

I do not really have a clue how good a team Vaslui is so hopefully I am not underestimating them when I expect an easy win from this game. Reja says he is going to change 4-5 players for this game because the turnover is "fundamental with all these engagements". As Massi already posted the formation was back to 4-2-3-1 in the training. I prefer that to 4-4-2 which has not worked at all when tried. The lineup, should it stay like that, seems ok to me.

Looking forward to Il Capitano scoring his 100th Lazio goal.

I hope I'm wrong but if we keep fielding a back line like that we could have big problems.  Lulic / Diakite are pretty much wild cards and Zauri was the worst player on the field against milan.  Its terrible to think that if something were to happen to either Dias or Biava this season we could be completely fucked.  Between Europa and the league we desperately need one of Diakite / lulic to step up and take pressure of the others, hopefully they can get confidence against a weaker side in this game.

I really do not know what happened with Lulic on Friday, he seemed to be fukking pickled, but, he cannot be that bad in reality. He should be capable of covering Radu and left-back is more of a natural position for him too. I simply do not think he is a risk factor in this game. Diakite I never liked one bit but as a backup he should be good enough against lesser teams. Garrido was not even on the UEFA list of players so he is out of picture for the European campaign.

I'm inclined to think Lulic simply had a bit of an excited start. The kid's first game in Serie A, at San Siro vs Milan and your team is playing well and holding the former champions to a tie. Spectacular goals by teammates, he must have been thinking "if I can score one.. man!!". I think he just needs to relax, he'll be fine. Daje Senad!
