Lazio travel to Sardegna to face off with Cagliari this weekend while spirits are now high from the last victory coupled with the results from the merde, udinese and juve games making CL a possiblity. Last time w faced Cagliari at home we saw goals from both floccari and mauri. However this time Cagliari are without Matri who scored their goal in the last match. Cagliari still aren't to be underestimated despite losing to juve and inter recently have also beat sampdoria and destroyed chievo 4-1. Hopefully we can see some more fury from hernanes who was an absolute animal against Bari on the weekend. Rocchi is now ready for action but the question remains will Reja play him. I'm hoping to see il capitano make an appearance this weekend but doubt it since we'll probably see zarate, floccari and kozak most likely played ahead of him.

This will be an exciting weekend with other big matches as well that can really help us out considering we get the 3 points needed.

Napoli vs Milan - i'm actually hoping milan beats lo zingari .. just because i'm pretty sure milan will most likely take the top spot but i'd like to see us surpass napoli eventually
Udinese vs Palermo - Palermo winning would mean that we've extended our gap to 7 points ahead of the 5th place spot .. making our champions league dream more reality

We need to stay focused and hopefully something awakens our attack to start scoring more, but in the end it's all about victory anyways.

Forza Lazio!

A win here would be huge. As you outline Palermo and Udinese clash at the weekend so three points would move us at least further away from one, or both if they draw, of them. Automatic Europa League qualification was achived by Napoli with 59 points last season, so a win would put us very close to the first objective of simply getting European football next year.

We have a good recent record here but our forwards need to start scoring, we can't keep relying on our midfield to bail us out game after game. I hope Rocchi gets some playing time because give him a chance he can put the ball into the net. That being said if Floccari is fit I'd like to see him start, maybe alongside il capitano but I doubt Reja will go for that.

Even without Matri, Cagliari is a decent little outfit with some nice players (who wouldn't mind Biondini?). Nevertheless, henceforth, all matches are mandatory. Cagliari have not played badly since Matri left and have tended to play well against the upper table, so we need to bring the right mentality to Sant'Elia.  They don't often give up many goals in a game, so again, our defense will be critical but winning will rely mainly on our midfield to control the game. Hopefully, our strikers can wake up because I think we will need two goals at least to win this one.

I have a feeling we might be up for another struggle along the lines of our recent encounter with Chievo. Muslera being injured is not a huge concern for me as we have good defense and Berni always seems to be up for it when he gets a chance. We should just convert our chances to goals with greater accuracy. That is what we have been wishing countless times before this season so I am a bit nervous. I am fine with any formation and lineup as long as it does not include Zarate as a starter. If Rocchi is fit he should get some playing time as well. He needs it and we probably do too.

Coincidentally, referring to imper's remark above, Reja has just spoken about our interest in getting Biondini. I cannot seem to remember his name cropping up before but apparently we have already tried to net him last summer..?

Cagliari is a team capable of scoring goals, they have only scored a goal less than us, not bad considering their table position. I agree we need more than a single goal to win this one. Our midfield should try to contain the possesion and create as many chances as possible, as we do not have a lethal striker, that can win this one all alone. Woudl love to see Il Capitano

Four teams below us on the table have scored (considerably) more than us so I would rather just call our collective goal tally a bit poor, eh. Matri scored a good third of Cagliari's goals as well before leaving. Without him they were capable of scoring four times against Chievo, though. I hope your prophesies will prove to be very wrong.

with out Brocchi Lazio must play Muta and Ledesma

The few times I have watched Cagliari I haven't been impressed. Their defense were very poor, and will now have to rely on Acquafresca a lot which isn't the best thing for a club. Cossu has really impressed me though in these games. A small tricky quick midfielder, I consider him a di natali of midfielders in serie a. 3 points are vital before our competition gets stronger.

Probable formation (4-2-3-1):

BERNI, LICHTSTEINER, BIAVA, DIAS, RADU; LEDESMA, MATUZALEM; GONZALEZ, HERNANES, SCULLI; FLOCCARI.

Nothing unusual there bearing the recent games in mind. Except for the possible return of Floccari to the fold, of course. Would not mind seeing him play and score a goal for a change. Unfortunately Rocchi is not even on the bench tomorrow.

This formation has worked, so there's no reason why it can't still. I prefer Zarate off the bench depending on what the game is like.

I love how the guy whose busted his ass for us up front and scored the majority of our goals in recent weeks has to sit.
