7 rounds in and Lazio sit atop Serie A, 2 points clear of both AC and inter Milan. Propelled by last weekends much needed redemption at Bari, Lazio now turn their attention to Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico(with the eagle flying high). Many had called for 4 points out of this and last week’s games, but I’m sure that that was assuming Bari as a draw. Cagliari have only scored 2 goals in the last 5 matches. the two goals coming in a 4-2 loss at Juventus. So 3 points will be the only acceptable result, especially with the Roma Derby just around the corner.

Don’t let the Rossoblu’s low scoring total fool you; they do have some decent playmakers & scorers. With Cassu(3A) being the most threatening playmaker. He was amongst last years assist leaders with 12, second only to Ronaldinho(not bad company) with 14.  For goal scores they boast some young talent in Alessandro Matri(4G), Robert Acquafresca(1G). the Latter being a target of ours last summer. he opted instead for guaranteed playing time at his old club on loan from Genoa. They are certainly not the most intimidating pair in Serie A, but surly nothing to scoff at. Cagliari's defensive record unlike their scoring total is among the best in the league. conceding in only 3 of 7 games, Juve being the only team to score more than once. the other 4 games have been 0-0 draws, so first goal will be Key.

Rumor is that “il Capitano” will play this match along side Floccari, in the much preferred two-man attack. 4-3-1-2 will almost certainly be the starting formation, and should see little change to the rest of the Lineup, with Defense and Midfield performing the best we have seen in years. However with this relatively easier match a head of two much harder contests we could see some rest thrown brocchi’s way; with replacements likely to be either Matuzalem or Bresciano. I would also like to see some time given to Cavanda and Gonzales. The latter only if things are going smoothly. Zarate too will be an option as substitute, though Kozak is just as likely to get the call. All speculation aside, I put my full faith in Reja's final decision.

Forza Lazio!!!

Very good mate

Not a great deal to add myself at this point, other then I agree with the majority of what you say. Cagliari have some dangerous players indeed, and are much stronger a team then Bologna and Brescia, the latter of which caused us a few problems.

Their manager, Bisoli, is known as a tactical maestro - he openly changes formations time and time again on the pitch depending on the situation as it happens - which was instrumental in Cesena's promotion. Of course, Cagliari haven't scored that many but they also have a good defence. Similar to us in that respect! We are hardly goal machines ourselves, just that we have that extra bit of quality to grind out results right now. So yes on paper and for all the obvious reasons you'd favour Lazio, but ever since the 4-1 annihilation at the Olimpico with Carrizo having a fucking nightmare and all those missed penalties, it is a particular fixture that I do not take for granted.

If they score first it will be very difficult to get back. After last year, we have no right to take anyone lightly.

Indeed, we don't the right to take anyone lightly and so far this season we have avoided doing so. I seem to say this every week but this won't be an easy one, as there are not any easy games here. They've won on their last two attempts to the Olimpico, so the record needs to be set straight here. I do however like some of their players, Cossu, Matri and Biondini to mention a few. However, the key for us will be approaching the game with a level headed mentality of obtaining three points rather than getting carried away with our league position. If we do that, then we should have the focus to win here.

Always liked Biondini, I think he'd be a nice addition.

Some nice goals in the warm up for the Cagliari game, especially Zarate's first one.

Saw an interesting stat, for what it's worth: only once since the introduction of the 3 point system has the Serie A team in first place after seven days NOT managed to finish in the top four at the end of the season. Frankly, I would be more than thrilled with a top six finish. CL, though would be nice because of the draw that it can become to the summer market. Although, even being in the top 6 in January would have a similar effect.

We at least hope that making europe or cl would mean a better mercato but don't forgot how stingy lotito was last time we made europe. I don't even care if zarate gets benched the full game .. he clearly doesn't have an impact on this team, i think we can do the same if not better without him. I welcome il capitano to start up front with floccari where hernanes and even mauri can feed them balls.

Despite Cagliari's position in the table .. they've played much tougher games then we have and have a 5-1 victory over the merde which would be a dream for us to achieve after losing both of the last 2 derbys. They've tied most of their games so far to samp, chievo, bari and palermo and lost to juve and inter which is pretty much expected even for us.

Still,.. in front of our fans we deserve nothing but victory and we should not end the streak to calgiari. A tie wouldn't even be acceptable .. we need to win. We will be facing palermo in the merde in the upcoming matches and we need to keep our composure.

  FORZA LAZIO!

Remember that Milan plays Napoli and Inter is at Samp - a victory could be very big for us indeed.

As long as we win we'll be leaders .. i hate Napoli so i hope they lose plus they are europe contenders as well.  ODIO NAPOLI!

Inter beating samp would keep them from competing with us for europe as well.

All ifs and buts but if Milan and Inter win then potentially we could be well clear of fifth place. I expect Juve to win, but Palermo may struggle away at Udinese given the thumping they received last night as well. So, yes there is a big chance this weekend to galvanise our position in the top section of the table.
