VS

Lazio's next match will also be a touch one against a highly motivated Juventus who's objective is the scudetto and to steam roll over anyone who gets in their way. Although they are trailing us by 3 points they are dying to get those 3 points to bring them marginally closer to AC Milan and secure the second spot with us.

Yesterday they managed to beat Catania in an away game 3-1 and it should have been 4-1 had the ref or assistants seen one perfectly legitamate goal scored. Krascic is dealy who seems to be able to outrun defenders and cross balls in perfectly. Now that Radu is out for the next match we will have to man mark Krasic carefully. The best option being considered right now is Cavanda who did a great job marking ronaldinho. According to Lazialita he will most likely be featured against Juventus.

Quagliarella will be the other headache we will have to look after who has found the net 8 times this season and already in the race for top scorer this season with 1 shy of the tied top spot.

We need to approach this game with the same motivation as we had against Inter. We need to keep attacking and creating chances instead of sitting back. We need to connect passes and we need to capitalize on the given chances.

I think a point was made when we beat Inter on friday that we can contend this season but grabbing more points against a team like Juventus securing our spot and widening the gap to third place can let us dream a little more about champions league or even if its a long shot .. a scudetto.

If your in the Toronto area we will be watching the game at Wegz Stadium Bar. Please Try and show up 20 minutes before the game as we will be taking a picture together, so bring your flags, scarves and SS Lazio gear.

Very important game. If we get 3 points out of this game we will get HUGE a moral boost.

What about the strike?

Seems like they are trying to get this pointless strike called off, but who knows really.

This game will be tougher than Inter at home, simply because Juve have been much better than them this season in Serie A at least. Strangely they've reserved a lot of their best performances for the road, roasting Udinese 4-0, beating Milan in the San Siro  at breaking Catania's long home unbeaten streak last night. At home, they've not been as clinical and that give me hope that we can get something out of this one. Huge game, for us and in terms of Serie A which is something to be proud of. I actually think for us the pressure is off somewhat. Why? We beat the European Champs, anything else of this big double header is a bonus. That makes us dangerous, but they are unbeaten since week four. A titanic clash.

^^ That's because Juve is not "at home" in Torino and have the most fans throughout Italy of any team. That having been said, it will be a really tough match. It seemes every week we say the same thing..."this will be an acid test match...etc etc etc". I guess we all still harbour doubts. Nevertheless, this will be a very tough match - up there with Palermo and Napoli. If we approach this match with the same mentality as those, we should do fine. I will gladly take the point.

365 always one step ahead of me with the thoughts.  Juve has scored 12 of their 29 goals away from home. Not quite half of their tally but still very interesting.  What stands out from the stats is that 11 of the goals they've conceded were at "home".  That's 11/15 goals given away "in casa"= 73%!!!!

To touch on imper.  Yes R-ube truly hasn't had a home field since the Delle "Empty"  and even then as the name suggests was not heavily supported.

A touch of history for the historian of calcio at heart says Juve is the most supported Italian club worldwide...Just not in Torino itself.  This stems from thousands of factory workers in the 20's and 30's venturing as far South as Sicily & Calabria to Turin to work in the Agnelli factory of FIAT.  From there working all week for a label like FIAT that was the main sponsor for a squad Juventus gave the employees a sense of pride and belonging, not to mention free tickets to games.  If there's one thing we can take from people invested in something: They like winning at it.  The Juventus team of those days was just as great as some we've seen in the early days of this decade.

Juventus will continue to be one of the most supported even here in Canada, which makes this a special fixture for a lot of us.  Preferably i'd like to kick their ass so hard in the scoreline that no ignorant comment could even be made.  With that being said I will also settle for the point. :)

About the strike, I have read this morning that both parties are negotiating. There will be a press conference tomorrow.

Thx Baggio for that little history lesson. Didn't know that to be honest. Workers or non workers, still merda none the less.

I'm feeling confident ahead of this clash. In these big games when we are considered the underdog we really seem to prosper , sitting back and waiting for our chances.
As for Juve it seems to me they struggle against teams of our stature (Teams with good players that are cautious against them), Fiorentina, Palermo, Roma, Sampdoria, all teams Juve have failed to beat this season. I really really hope we can claim the 3 points like Palermo did against them, not only for our sake, but to show Juve they are shit and not worthy of the Scudetto.

This game means everything to me. I hate Juve just as much as I hate Merda possibly even more. Shockingly, I used to be a Juve fan and a part time Laziale. But I grew out of that embarrassing phase. It seems like every Italian around me is a Juve fan and I'm so frigen sick of it. Every Canadian-Italian just loves to jump on the Juve bandwagon. I'd love for us to smash Juve so I can spit on every Juve merda I see.

^^Juve is a bandwagon team if there ever was one. In Canada for sure, not much different than Italy, it's like the default team. To speak to Baggio's point about the media and their inherent bias, GDS printed a front page after the Catania game that said something to the effect of "Third place and -6 from Milan" as if second, and the match against Lazio was just a formality. Anyway, as the saying goes "Juve in trasferta, Calabria diserta".

Hate to say it but Juve has had our card for a long time. They seem to chock against smaller teams much like us .. but we've only managed to grab a point at most in the last few years not counting coppa matches which seem less important to them (unless i'm wrong).

Beating Juventus would be just another early christmas present for us.

I totally agree, Juve fans are by far the biggest bandwagon jumpers. I would take such great satisfaction beating them. I think we proved a point last week by beating inter and by tripping juve in the process would only confirm how much this team has risen. Last season it was well confirmed that the team sucked and this year it's looking like the total opposite.

They players need to stay focused and really take each match as they come and not get ego's. If Zarate is going to play he needs to work more with hernanes and the rest of the team.

I'm hoping Cavanda will be out to prove himself as well this weekend as Radu's likely replacement. I think most of us were happy with what we've seen from him in the little he's played.

I'm hoping we can keep our lead and not share second place with rubentus and the gypsies otherwise known as napoli.

If im not mistaken, Andre Dias is also out of this game from suspension. Therefore we need to rely on Guiseppe Biava to control our backline against La Vecchia Signora. We have Stendardo and Diakite as our usual center backs. Diakite had a good game last season against juventus but Stendardo would sound more promising.

I was not able to catch the Inter game because of the weekday but I have read that Matuzalem had a good game. I think Lazio should put him back on this game. If Matuzalem were to have another good game against another top team in serie a, it can do a lot of good for Matuzalem's confidence most importantly on the field.

what kind of lineup would I expect:

                 muzzy

lich - biava - stendardo - cavanda

             ledesma

    mauri                brocchi

             hernanes

    zarate               floccari

it's going to be quite scary to watch our back line defend against la vecchia troia
