Well, maybe he wants to boost some more confidence in the team, I mean it sounds way too naive and stupid to be without a purpose.

He did start out speaking about not needing another defender. With our starting pair and the way our backups seem to be playing I have to agree. Yes one more strong central defender would give us a wall, but it would just be a depth move.
As long as Reja doesn't think three 30+ strikers can carry this team all year.

There's a perfect reason why I don't like Reja. He's trying to keep objectives low like he did last year so the fans don't freak out on him when they aren't meant. But he really does sound like an idiot in some interviews. How can he say its impossible to win the scudetto but that we don't need any new players??? Makes no friggen sense at all. He sounds like a fucken idiot.

^^ I think your being a little harsh zazza. I think Reja is doing the typical Italian think. He's speaking with scaramanzia (i.e. not to tempt fate) nd trying to avoid autoperculazione (being hoisted on his own petard). I don't really read much into that. Ultimately, he wants to win a scudetto and will do whatever he can to do that. As for new signings he can't very well go out and say publicly that he thinks some of his players are not up to it. That would be a great way to crush the teams mojo -  especially guys like Scaloni (who i agree Baggio, did play well).

We are top of the league, I agree that calling for new players publicly would do nothing but damage moral in the current squad, basically saying that what we have now is not good enough. Perhaps it is not, but Reja does not need to explain the clubs mercato plans to some journalist. Anyhow publicly calling out for squad changes is usually a disaster. Just ask Rafa Benitez after his tirade at Inter. Behind the scenes, I bet it is a different story.

Cant really complain, we were always going to struggle without Klose and more so with playing Cisse in his place (why no Rocchi?) but a point from the San Paolo is a decent result, and leaves us joing top of the league going in to next week, which will be quite a game.

And ill be there :)

if Reja is good at one thing its motivating his players through his actions and i think that was exactly the purpose of that comment..

Do we need additions? yea sure we could use someone upfront when Mauri is not around but there is no use in bitching about it to the media.. especially after we tied with Napoli in Naples without Klose..
Cisse is getting tired of not scoring but with the team playing so defensivley as we did saturday its hard to just hang out alone up front and drible an entire defence or hope for the perfect contro piede... lets just say i was much more dissapointed when he didnt score in Europa against Zurich the first time.

If we keep playing like this we will certainly fall out of top 5.  We are offensively crippled.  We still have room to improve but so far I don't see any sign of improvement.  My patience with Cisse is running out.

i agreee, this was cisse's big chance to play upfront, everyones been saying he cant score because Reja plays him out of position on the wings...but in this game we looked like we had a man down, we had no striker, everytime the ball was played forward cisse was out of position still on the wings, i even saw Hernanes play a bit of magic, beat some defender and move forward, but for what? cisse was no where to be found?

i dont know whats wrong with him... its like hes afraid of playing up front these days.. He should of spent the entire game right behind the last deffender and hoped for a great counter play where he could have out run whoever was on him and scored one of those Cisse goals that he was famous for in Greece!

Then again he does support our midfield and I think we need that especially against the agressive Napoli style yesterday..

sure Klose is the man of the season, but he aint no spring chicken, there's gonna be other games like this, where he picks up a knock and is out, i just hope someone else can step up and become reliable in the goal dept., maybe Rocchi if he actually gets a game, or Kozak
