Lazio head to Lisbon to face Sporting on Thursday night in what is expected to be a battle of potential Europa League group D leaders. After a rather disapointing start at home to Vaslui, Lazio must make amends - and quickly. There are few opportunities for missed steps in European play, and a win away to Lisbon will certainly make a statement.
Sporting is one of Portugal's storied big three franchises and boasts a formidable squad with the likes of Bojinov, Wolfswinkel, Insua and Elias.
Lazio will be without Radu and Mauri for this match, but will likely recuperate Gonzalez and Biava.
Wielding the whistle for this match will be Swedish ref Markus Strombergsson.

Thanks for starting this topic Marc! Winning this game will definitely boost confidence in reja and morale on the team. Sporting won't be an easy team and especially playing them in Lisbon won't make things easier. They beat FC Zurich in their last game 2-0. We really need Radu back desperately. That guy makes the world of difference when we have him in the back. Let's fuck up these porkchops!!!!! Forza Lazio!

If we win the lisbon match it would set us nicely for the group stage and gives us the confidence for fiorentina and then merda. Just hope we can finish off any chance's we get infront of goal and maybe start with rocchi upfront with klose. I would start diakhate in defence as well he improving in each game he plays and with brocchi, ledesma in the midd we have a good chance.

This will be a big test, and it's a game we actually cannot afford to lose after a piss poor match against Vaslui, hopefully we won't be made to regret that draw. They have some decent players and have made a solid start to their league campaign. Despite this I would have been disappointed if we did not top this group at the outset of this competition and will still be so now. Avanti!

Fuck my life for this one. A- Lazio wins and I have to deal with no "action" for days on end from my gf. B- Sporting wins and her and her family bask in the glory of the Green Lions over us. C- Peace remains in both households with a draw. I've watched the Green and White for the last 2 years. There story is very similar to ours in how much they hate their city rivals (Benfica) also the fact that their fans tend to lean on the right side of the political spectrum and are more of the aristocrats of the city. They have also only won 1 European trophy in the Cup Winners Cup ( Circa 1968) just like us in (2000). They have a new president, a new coach and are basically run by shareholders and fans alike. They are a fast moving team and lately van Wolfswinkel has been on fire with some 2 goal a game ratio in the last 4 undefeated matches. I wrote an in-depth preview here: http://lazioland.com/NewsProfile.htm?NewsId=794 but just some more tidbits on the team from Lisbon-er: • Sporting are unbeaten in five European games – two wins and three draws. • They have also not lost in their last five UEFA home games – four wins and a draw. • Sporting are unbeaten in their last three home ties against Serie A sides; a win and two 2-2 draws. • Lazio's ten games against Portuguese sides have ended W6 D1 L3 (W2 D0 L3 in Portugal). They have never played a competitive game in Lisbon before. They're Key Player: Ricky van Wolfswinkel 5 goals in all competitions so far. Head to Head: Lazio & Sporting have never met competitively before. UEFA RANKING: S.S LAZIO: 74 S.C.P: 24 In order to succeed it sounds bad but either we take our chances with the run and gun mentality that we opened with against Milan or we play a more defensive approach by clogging the midfield and frustrating them by eliminating their speed which is their main threat of attack. Domingos theyre coach is not one to sit back and wait, especially at home with already 40,000 plus in attendance. Reja will have his work cut out tomorrow. Here's to hoping Rocchi silences the Avalade with his 100th Lazio goal! Forza Lazio!

Our toughest game in the group stage. We didn't start the season really well, but obviously we are improving, shame we didn't win our last game against Palermo. We have decent players, many of you may not agree with me, but Reja can't simply organise our attacking play. He is a coach with defensive approach and as we saw in the last game, we could not prevail usually a fragile Palermo defense, sure they defended well, but we were not creative enough. I guess that's something we got to live with while Reja is around. I don't dare to think we may win this game, but who knows, with our extremely lame and slow counter attacks, we can't defend all the time and hope for a win.

D- Lazio smashes Sporting and you go celebrate with strippers and beers. This will be a tough match, but we should be afraid of no one. Let's play our match and force the to adapt to it.

electric atmosphere in lisbon...now i am truly nervous. On another note, my mom (for some strange reason) brought home portugese custard tarts for the first time ever today. Needless to say I will not indulge.
