apparently it's official, Cruz will wear a Lazio jersey next year. The player is in Rome to sign a 1 yr 1.6 million Euro contract with an option for a second year.
I think it's a good move - Cruz addresses our weakness in the air, is a classic striker and has tonnes of experience. The fact that we're not tied to him indefinitely, given his age and the the fact thatwe have young strikers in the system, is also a good thing.

Benvenuto Cruz, I hope he scores a load of goals. E dajeeeeeeeeee el jardinero!!!!!!!!   00

I think thats what Cruz is .. just a filler in ther interim while we can find a more viable and young striker for the future to fill in or at least I hope thats the objective so we don't have another veteran like inzaghi on the bench.

We were rumoured with Cruz 2 years ago when we were qualifying for CL. I'm not sure what to make of Bengsston .. never heard of him or seen him play .. but I have a good feeling about him. Apparently they were tracking him for a long time which shows he's really good. I would still keep pandev 100 times over than cruz.

We probably thought the same way when we signed Rolando Bianchi and how many goals did he score for us ? Then again who knows ??? Pandev's scored some very important goals for us last season and he's been scoring enough goals for us for two seasons prior.. he's consistent and proven. Cruz wasn't an integral part of Inter nor did he score goals for how many seasons ? I'm not sure exactly but I can tell you he was scoreless last season.

He obviously didnt play many games.
He is good for us, he has experience and he is still very strong,he will have alot to prove in italy and going into a world cup season(year)
He is good and i am not against getting a yong guy that we can afford.

Personally, I hope Cruz is not a replacement for Pandev. Any club competing in Europe needs 4 top strikers. Rocchi, Zarate, Cruz and Pandev forfill this for me. Makinwa and Inzaghi really have no place here anymore. Cruz is great in the box, and with Zarate or Goran alongside would score a lot, as Rocchi has done in the last few seasons next to Goran. We may play 4:2:3:1 or 4:4:2. For me De Silvestri can leave, hes not crucial, Ledesma is replacable but loosing Goran would be a blow, even after all the bullshit this summer, as he can make the difference against any team. Ir never forget that night against Real Madrid.  02

since 2004: Pandev: 159 (48)

since 2003: Cruz 129 (49)

i'm not terribly upset by it. as a short term solution, it's not a bad choice given his aformentioned style. Tactically, I like Cruz-Zarate better than Pandev-Zarate.

I'd be more interested in recent stats, like in the last 2-3 years... probably not impressive at all. I'm looking like the anti-cruz right now... but Pandev is clearly the better option .. to me this is not a step forward as far as strikers go.

Honestly I think Cruz fits the style that this team is capable of so well. With a 4 2 3 1 we need guys who can bury the ball in the box score in the air which is exactly what Cruz can be good for.  Not to mention replacing pandev with Cruz  can make us a hell of alot of money to be spent elsewhere.  Having two pure hitmen in Rocchi and Cruz allows us to work our formation around this type of attack and I think it will make us better.

I agree TR18, Cruz certainly adds another real quality pure hitman to the team. Its almost laughable, no it is laughable, to rely on Makinwa and Inzaghi as a back up to Rocchi. Cruz really helps us here. But I think Latius has a point, Pandev is a better player so I hope its not a direct replacement. If Pandev goes, another forward of similar age and quality should be brought in.

Cruz and Pandev are two completley different types of strikers so comparison is limited.  Pandev is a setup striker, Cruz is a finisher.  Cruz has ability in the air and deadly in the box, pandev as seen before could play as an offensive mid-fielder.  This is a great move, overall I would rather keep Pandev but considering Cruz's style like a Pippo Inzaghi he could well be effective even beyond 2 years.  Key issue is he will not create chances Only Capitalize on them.  He will need support from the midfield and decent crosses/passes to convert.  Great Addition, Now get Defense so he doesn;t have to score 5 goals a game
