Hernanes' signing is not going to become much more official, is it. Here we finally have a player who should take our midfield to an entirely new level. Hernanes has enjoyed great success in Brazil, I think most people on the forum are familiar by now with the accolades he has received and convinced of his talent and skills. Without further ado then, he has got what we need. As I have said before my biggest concern is how he will adapt to Serie A. If he can handle the pressure mentally, adjust his playing style a bit and gels with the rest of the team, I believe there is no stopping him.

Ave Hernanes!

I do not judge Brazilian players in the Brazilian league. I judge them outside of it. Extremely tough opener at the Marassi and I will be expecting good things - not necessarily fireworks straight away, but I want a much better pass completion ratio then Ledesma for instance. Hernanes is used to time on the ball that he won't necessarily get, espeically away from the Olimpico.

Welcome Hernanes, please don't let us down.

^understandable.

apparently things might be made official on monday. just a day before his second national cap, witch will be against the USA in new jersey. If only I had known a few weeks ago I would have went to give him his first Lazio cheers, oh well. It will be nice to watch him on TV where I can actually make out his number and watch him more closely. this again will tell me nothing about his ability to play in Serie A, but will hopefully add some enjoyment to another meaningless friendly + I will get to hear Lazio on ESPN(USA)  which will surly make me happy (since I am easily amused)

If all goes as planned he should make his way to Rome some time after this..... I think

Difficult debut for Hernanes in Doria for sure, but the rest of the team has something to prove after last years shambles of a season and hopefully that will take some of the weight of his shoulders and allow him to settle quick. And he will need to hit the ground running, as this league is a melting pot of pressure. First ten games should give us a balanced picture.

Now we will see if he can live up to the billing that ranked him first in the Time's top 50 rising stars in world football by Gab Marcotti in 2009, ahead of David Silva, Marek Hamsik, Karim Benzema amongst others. Best of luck.

It's the first time we sign a solid proven name under lotito as a president. It won't be easy for him, as it has been said many times, the difference between Seria A and the Brazilian league is huge, but I hope the atmosphere and the conditions will motivate him to show his best.

Lotito and Tare getting Hernanes was like daylight robbery. I am surprised not 1 big team came out and put stacks on deck for Hernanes. 5 Years :D . Hopefully Lotito continues bringing in big names. He must get credit for this, beat out Champions League and Europa League teams to Hernanes. I am sure Hernanes will not risk so many fancy play so soon. I watched segments of the Sao Paolo game last night and it looks like Hernanes really likes it when two opponents come at him and he's standing still waiting for them. The ball looked like it is glued to his foot. His passes and crosses looked decent and he certainly came storming back on defense. I have also seen him play in that game where the defense outlet the ball to him to start up the play, similar to Ledesma. Hopefully and I would guess that Ledesma will be sold to help pay for that second payment for Hernanes and have extra cash for another addition this or January mercato.

Err not to be the party pooper but I'm playing the devil's advocate here.

I'm equally excited about us signing a Brazilian NT player! It's been so long since we have one.
A few questions that I have regarding him is:

1. If a year ago his value is +20 mill, is there a reason why he is now valued at around 15 M? Maybe injury? Inflated initial price?
2. H was the best player in the Brazilian league for 2 years in a row. Is there a reason why he wasn't used at the WC qualifications or even called to WC squad?
3. Besides Palermo and Lazio, I didn't hear of any big teams going after him. I heard AC Milan was after him last year but that is only a rumor. I just cant understand why there wont be more competition for this guy. WHen Robinho was the best player in Brazil, many clubs were after him.

I'm sure there'll be people responding this with insult. Well if you are planning to, please dont. I'm very happy that Lazio sign Hernanes but I only want to have an objective answer to above and open a discussion whether he will be as good as we all expected him to be. Lord knows we dont need another case of Carrizzo who was hyped so strongly.

Its all over Tuttomercato web as well, which is as official as it gets really. This signing certainly is a statement of intent, and certainly puts this club back on the map from a global perspective.

Whenever Ive seen him play, which is only a few times admittedly, he is extreamly effective bursting forward with pace, not dissimilar to the manner in which Kaka plays, or used to when he was match fit. Its the type of player in theory which we have needed for sometime. Now we just need him to deliver.

As to Howies points, with regards to the Brazilian squad issue Pato and Ronaldinho were not called either as Dunga took a more defensive and robust approach to his starting 11, building it round Kaka so I guess Hernanes is in good company on that front.

1. A year or two ago Barcelona attempted to buy him for 13m but he turned them down.
2. Dunga is an idiot. Both Pato and Ronaldinho weren't chosen for the squad either.
3. Like I said Barcelona were very interested in him (rumored).
Anyways none of this matters. What Hernanes did at Sao Paolo was great but its in the past. Let's hope he can dominate Serie A the way he did in Brazil.

Howie, your points are well taken (your avatar is sublime) and we'd all be advised to check our enthusiasm. I think what's exciting is that Lazio said they were going to get a very well rated player (Times called him the best under 25 last year) and we did. It's the first time in a long time we went out and landed a big fish on the market. Anyway, benvenuto profeta!

^ It's not party pooping it's trying to keep level headed.

Some of you's behaviour worries me. I can only hope he delivers, if not instantly, then quickish.

Serie A > Brazilian League and I'm not talking about a small amount. BIG AMOUNT people. Staying strictly in Europe, it's like comparing football quality in La Liga to the SPL.

Hernanes can achieve and perform whatever the fuck he wants in Brazil, playing the likes of Fluminese, Botafago and Atletico Paranaense week in week out, where the football standard is bad - nothing but zonal marking all across the pitch, time to light a cigar, smoke it, and reach for another one, before anyone gets near you.

Go from that, to Serie A, in which he will find himself in situations not only tackled but have 1 and, when people realise how possibly good he is, TWO people up his asshole at all times. It's a big, big cultural jump. All in all, it's a bit foolish and unfair to put so much pressure on him - let's just wait and see for the Marassi.

It took Pastore six or seven rounds to adjust and get to grips with Serie A before completing an excellent campaign, so if Hernanes is all he is cracked up to be then a similar time frame would be appropriate. This club can't afford another flop after 30 million on Zarate and Matuzalem so there is significant pressure here on all levels.
