^^ Ledesma isn't even an emigrant, he's a descendant (or, if you like oriundo), and I'm not crazy about the idea either. Otherwise, I agree with you Manchild, he is reliable and consistent.

Speaking for myself, ManChild, I have no desire to criticise Ledesma as a player at the moment. I quite simply do not like the idea of Gli Azzurri turning into a group of emigrants. That is all.

I guess I misunderstood - watched too much baronio last season I started to appreciate Ledesma more.

In the last Olympic games some pingpong contests featured American Chinese vs Chinese Chinese... that surely looked disturbing.  One of these days national teams will run like league clubs - instead of handing out salaries you hand out passports.

how true. It starts to become petty to bitch about non-Italian born Azzurri players, when at the same time teams like Argentina are just a mixed bag of Italians, Spanish, Germans with some indigenous thrown in for good measure. what makes some one (for example) Italian. is Balotelli? he was born in Italy. yeah but his parents were Ghanaian immigrants. I think in todays world all that matters is what country you "feel" more pride for. or if your South American, whether you can make the team or not.

I suggest the Genetic Grouping games team Caucasian, Negroid, Mongoloid and Australoid (it can be broken down further if teams are needed). could be lots of fun if it weren't considered so Racist damn you PC

In my opinion where you are born and where you grew up is your homeland. Balotelli doesn't look Italian, but feels Italian so that makes him Italian. But changing nationalities is just bullshit in my opinion. Brazilians playing for Japan and Croatia? Guys who can't break into their own squads so they settle for second best, like Amauri and Ledesma. Blatter and Platini need to stop this.

I just want to contradict myself and remind everyone that I am all for young Rossi's inlcusion in the national team. He is Italian. That is how I feel. Good for me. Him too. And all them bitter Americans. I guess I should add I would also allow DeBez in. And imper. Because clearly they are more Italian than Balotelli. And this discussion is retarded.

It's fine to adopt a new culture (many immigrants do it) and if Ledesma has been living and working in Italy for much of his life and has put down roots and married and raised children, then that's fine. But for too many of these players it's just about money. They choose to play for an adopted national team simply to raise their value and prestige - it's completely inauthentic. The problem is how do you create a rule that divides sincere immigrants who've adopted their new culture from mere mercenaries? You can't. It's just sad is all.
