I was at the Lazio v Bologna game and noticed that everytime Manfredini touched the ball the Curva Nord were booing/whistling him whilst the rest of the crowd tried to drown this out with cheers.

Can someone explain??

The Curva Nord, does not speak for the entire fanbase, and they don't even really speak with one voice anyway.  Some will try to argue that it is a racial thing - I don't neccesarily agree. I think that some of them just don't like Manfredini and figure this is the way to express it. Let's remember that they were also the one's who though Chinaglia would be a good president and trusted that his mysterious backers were trustworthy. In the end, everyone has a right to express themselves in the stadium as they see fit, I'm just not sure how it helps Lazio win games or players to play better. Manfredini is not a great player but he seems to do a decent job when called upon - whuich is basically to plug holes in the midfield later in the game.

the rest of the crowd thinks of it as a racial thing because they try to drown it out, but Im not sure if thats really the reason.  Mudingayi would be praised by the Curva when he was here:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/1vjhHbfWZlk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/1vjhHbfWZlk</a>

Im not doubting that race is probably an issue, but I think it more has to do with the Curva being critical of the way Manfredini plays.

In the year of 2001 or 2002 lazio placed a bid for thuram the french midfielder. The Irriducibili had to step in and have a meeting  whether they were against him or not because of his skin colour. Thuram couldn't believe these allegations and decided never to talk 2 lazio again. Its sad to see this occuring and now with Manfredini i feel for him because any lazio player should be respected because he is wearing our very proud jersey!!!!!!  00

It could have been race but that will be minimal, i believe it is more for his performance on the pitch.

Why should the Lazio fan base have any fewer idiots than what is generally present in society as a whole? There are certainly some idiots who boo a player because of the colour of his skin - I have no doubt that some who booed Manfredini did so because of the colour of his skin.  I am also certain many did so because they don't like manfredini as a player - and even though I don't agree with booing a player while he's wearing our jersey and competing for us, I accept that fans are entitled to their oppinions. The point is, that the rest of the crowd whistled down the others probably because in either case, they felt thet it was silly to boo one of our own. Good for them.

I never even thought about race .. i just think he's just a mediocre player I'd rather not see on the field much like siviglia.

Are you kidding? Fabrizio from the Irriducibili personally told Thuram that they were fine with him playing for Lazio. It was HE who declined the offer to play for Lazio because of the apparent "racism" of the ultras.

Oh shut up! You guys have been off the terrace for 20 years. How many Irriducibili have you met? a very, very small percentage are those that the media like to depict most often.

this is as big a fallacy as saying there is no such thing as racism in the curve. there is probably the same proportion as there is in society as a whole...so big deal. I wouldn't say that most Irr are anything, they are who they are and to paint people with broad strokes is unfair. i have no problem with Manfredini but come on, he's a weak link on this team and i hope we replace him with someone better.

Also when the team was doing really badly they threatened Kolarov, threw eggs at Ledesma and shouted abuse towards Rocchi so this is another media pick and choose.

Sorry for posting on this... old topic but I want to say my opinion on this.

I'm am not a rasist and of course I don't have a problem when someone is black or yellow or white? But WTF? How can you boo your own player? I think that if he kick those bastards who boo everytime a colored player,we could get rid of them. I just pity them... Wasteful persons which they made a bad name for our team...
