Matuzalem: Lazio, here I come!
Friday 18 July, 2008
Real Zaragoza star Francelino Matuzalem says he “can’t wait” to sign for Lazio this weekend in his return to Serie A.

“This morning Lazio agreed a deal with Real Zaragoza and only details now remain to sort out the player’s personal terms,” said agent Umberto Fusco on Datasport.

“It will be a one-season loan, but we have not yet been told how much they’ll have to pay in order to make the move permanent. We are getting on a plane tonight and Matuzalem could complete his medical on Saturday.”

It is a return to Serie A for the Brazilian, who already played with Napoli, Parma, Piacenza and Brescia from 1999 to 2004.

Since then he has been to Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk and Spain for Real Zaragoza.

“I am working out the final details with the club and will then take the first flight to Rome,” grinned the 28-year-old midfielder.

“I am incredibly happy to be back in Italy with a great club and exceptional fans. I know Cristian Ledesma well, but have been following Serie A ever since leaving and think I can settle in without problems.

“I can adapt to various different positions and like to push up in order to attack.”

Matuzalem scored one goal in just 14 appearances in La Liga last term, but spent much of it on the sidelines.

“I have now fully recovered from that injury, caused by a foul from Yaya Toure against Barcelona. I am in good shape and can’t wait to start the new season with Lazio.”

I can't wait til this is made official and I can't wait even more til the season starts so we can start ripping our competition apart.

He already signed!

-------------------------------------------------------
Official: Lazio Sign Matuzalem
Lazio have continued their impressive summer work in the transfer market by signing Real Zaragoza midfielder Matuzalem on loan for a season.

Matuzalem only joined Zaragoza from Shakhtar Donetsk last year, however he has been almost certain to leave them this summer following their shock relegation from La Liga.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Roma in recent days, but instead he has signed for city rivals Lazio on a one-year loan deal.

"Real Zaragoza have reached an agreement for the season-long loan to Lazio of the player Francelino Matuzalem,” a statement on the Spanish club’s website reads.

“The player will be in Rome today to sign an agreement with the Italian club."

Matuzalem has already played in Italy from 1999 to 2004, wearing the shirts of Napoli, Parma, Piacenza and Brescia before leaving for the Ukraine to play for Shakhtar Donetsk.

Now, the Brazilian will form an all South American pair at the heart of the midfield with the Argentine Cristian Ledesma. He is the latest in a long line of players to join Lazio this summer, following Juan Pablo Carrizo, Sergio Zarate, Pasquale Foggia, Stephan Lichtsteiner, and Guglielmo Stendardo, who returned from his loan spell at Juventus.

It's done, he's already in Rome and will undergo meds today and be at the camp tomorrow. This is a very good aquisition. Rega' we may have a hell of a team next year - keep your fingers crossed that we get an ounce of luck!

We are going to kick some serious ass this year. Last year was pure misery, from not the shitty mercato, doing nothing in CL, injuries, and having a crap season overall .. but this year we can finally start the year with smiles on our faces with the aquisitions.  I cant wait to see  Matu on the field. Let us be cautiously optimistic, it may take time for the team to gel, but with luck and the right mental attitude it will come fast enough.
The middle looks good and may even be stronger if we get another midfielder, maybe a left sided one.

I still have a little reservation about our defence and i hope the next big signing will be a good central defender.

If we can secure Moti then our defense will be set. I think we will have a well rounded team on the field.

If you can I would just pay the 100 US to www.serie.tv where you can catch all the games LIVE or at least watch the REPLAY so you dont have to get up that early. I got the subscription mid season last year for 50 US and it was totally worth it. The quality is also pretty good.

Matuzalem's in love with Lazio
Thursday 24 July, 2008
Lazio newcomer Francelino Matuzalem is relishing his return to the peninsula and wants to impress in the Biancocelesti shirt.

The Brazilian midfielder left Brescia in 2004 after spells at Napoli, Parma and Piacenza.

But the 28-year-old is back in Serie A on a season loan from Real Zaragoza and can’t wait to assert himself.

“After three years in Ukraine and last season at Zaragoza, Lazio is a great opportunity for me,” Matuzalem said at his unveiling.

“I’m happy to wear the shirt of such a prestigious club. My first day of training was great.

“I am only here for a year on loan, but I will do all I can to stay here longer.

“I want to recover the joy of playing football again after a difficult year when I suffered with a knee injury. I want to get back to the top of my game.

“At Lazio we are hoping to win all games. The aim is to finish high up in the table and I want to win back my place in the national side.”

Matuzalem hasn’t played for Brazil since he held a place in the Under-17 side.
