Ischia: Star Zarate Will Bag 20 Carlos Luis Ischia gave Mauro Zarate his debut at Velez Sarsfield and is confident that he will be a massive hit in Serie A by bagging at least 20 goals this season. The current Boca Juniors coach was the first one to detect Zarate's great potential in 2004 when he was in charge of Velez Sarsfield, when the former Birmingham City player was just 18-years-old. Noting his star potential, Ischia plucked him away from the junior side and gave him his first taste of the top flight.
"He's fantastic, he can have another 10 or 12 years at the highest level," he told Corriere dello Sport.
"Mauro can score in several ways and his strike rate has always been impressive. I bet he will get no less than 20 times on the scoresheet in Serie A and his goals are more often than not pleasing to the eye.
"I believed in him at Velez and was eager to bring him to Boca last July: when Rodrigo Palacio was on the verge of joining the Aquile I asked the president to replace him with Mauro. In the end Rodrigo stayed put and it didn't happen."
Now that the 21-year-old has landed in Italy to restore Lazio to their former glory after a miserable campaign last term, Ischia believes he's the right man to excite the Biancocelesti demanding fans, due to being one of Argentina's 'most talented players'.
"Zarate, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria are the future of the Argentine national team," continued Ischia.
"Mauro made some important choices in the past: he went to Saudi Arabia when he was pretty young, then experienced the Premier League and now he has the big opportunity to make a name for himself in Italy.
"He's a very technical player, really quick, and I think the goals netted in Cagliari clearly showed that. I'm happy for him, because he deserves it."
i agree..i'm sure he will success in lazio..forza zarate

I hope this is true. If zarate can score as much as pandev and rocchi did last season we should have no problem getting a european spot.

Lotito: I Chose Zarate Lazio president Claudio Lotito is keen to lap up the credit being shelled out for the masterful acquisition of the prolific Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate.
Lazio continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday afternoon and Zarate once again found his name on the scoresheet. It has been a truly impressive start to his Lazio career. A confident Biancoceleste side put the ball into the back of the net after only seven minutes thanks to Zarate, who had already scored two in week one against Cagliari. Goran Pandev completed the 20 win on 76 minutes.
Speaking to Radio Anch'io Sport, the Lazio president spoke of the Argentinian, saying, It was my initiative.
I work mainly through the use of tapes. I had seen him once, but then he was lost in the Arab market. We found him again and he became a player that interested us.
The man in charge of the Biancocelesti continued to blow his own trumpet, and that of his new signing, adding, I've bought a player who is fast and able to shoot at goal. Now he is developing an Italian mentality, with a great deal of determination and a will to win.

17/09/2008 15:16 Sabatini: I Told Lotito About Zarate Lazio sports director Walter Sabatini has stated that he was the one who told Biacoceleste president Claudio Lotito about Argentinian ace Mauro Zarate... Argentinian striker Zarate has been in fine form since his arrival at Lazio in the summer, scoring three goals in two Serie A games. It seems as though everyone in the Lazio camp is keen to get the credit for his capture, after Lotito and Sabatini both said that they were the major scout responsible for his transfer.
Yesterday it was reported that Lotito had spoken of Zarate's transfer on Radio Anch'io Sport, saying, It was my initiative. I work mainly through the use of tapes. I had seen him once, but then he was lost in the Arab market. We found him again and he became a player that interested us.
The man in charge of the Biancocelesti continued to blow his own trumpet, but now his sports director has come out of the shade to accept the credit himself.
Sabatini insisted, I told Lotito about Zarate. I liked him even in his time at Velez. Lotito listened to my advice and Lazio were able to acquire a very talented player.
The two sides of the story at Lazio don't seem to add up, but Biancocelesti fans won't care as long as Zarate keeps scoring goals.
