Zarate In The Right Frame Of Mind
Lazio’s new star striker Mauro Zarate thinks he knows how to progress after making a phenominal start at the club...

Mauro Zarate has been a revelation for the capital club. He netted a brace on his Serie A debut against Cagliari, then scored again on his home debut at the Stadio Olimpico. Now, the Argentinian has affirmed that his next objective is to score at one of the most daunting stadia in the world - the San Siro.

Lazio’s next match is the Serie A showdown with Milan on Sunday night and the prolific striker is approaching the game positively. “I must stay calm and I must continue to train and play in the same way,” said the mature youngster. “What I want is for Lazio to finish the season as high up as possible and fight for the championship.”

The striker was touted as one to watch in Serie A during pre-season and has impressed even the harshest of critics with his fantastic displays so far. Tomorrow, Zarate will get the chance to test himself against the might of the Rossoneri.

Zarate targets Lazio title
Saturday 20 September, 2008
Mauro Zarate explains the great start to his Serie A career and why he can help Lazio “challenge for the Scudetto.”

The striker had recently plied his trade in Qatar and Birmingham City, but has hit the ground running in Italy with three goals in two games.

“I knew it would be easier for me to settle in Italy, as the country is similar to Argentina and that made everything more familiar,” he told Argentine news agency elgrafico.

“I really could not get accustomed to Qatar and that is why I asked to be sold.”

Zarate netted a spectacular goal in the 1-0 win over Sampdoria and aims to continue that run against Milan on Sunday evening, but his ambitions stretch beyond this weekend.

“Now everything is going fantastically well, but we still have to wait a little while. I hope that soon Lazio can challenge for the Scudetto.”

The 21-year-old has been banging in the goals and hopes to break into his international team.

“I will carry on working hard, then we will see. If you play well, then you can get your chances.”

i hope tonight he can score a goal again..

I hope this guy can keep his scoring pattern. He is going to make his mark here at Lazio. I just hope Pandev and Rocchi can score just as much ... then we'll be a force to wrecken with.

Zarate A Great Champion - Lotito
Lazio president Claudio Lotito has commented on his club after their impressive win against Torino.

Lazio won 3-1 against Torino to add to their goal tally and keep their record as the current top scorers in the league.

Two goals from striker Mauro Zarate added to the opening goal from Goran Pandev to give Lazio the victory over Torino. The away win allows Lazio to reach the heights of the top of the table uncontested until tonight’s game between Milan and Inter.

After Zarate’s two goals, the Argentinian striker spoke of his ambitions to win the Scudetto with Lazio. Lazio president Lotito is weary of aiming too high, too early and prefers to have patience and see how the season progresses.

“We have our feet on the ground. This team can win against anyone; they must keep playing as they have been. It is too early to make predictions,” said the president.

Zarate is now head of the scoring charts on six goals after five games and the president is very happy with the Argentinian. “Zarate is young and can still grow. Zarate was my choice; I saw his tapes and bought him immediately. He is a great champion,” concluded Lotito.

Lotito Plans Permanent Zarate Deal
Lazio President Claudio Lotito has revealed that he plans to sign Argentine sensation Mauro Zarate on a permanent deal.

Zarate joined the Biancocelesti on-loan from Al-Sadd in the summer, and the 21-year-old has been nothing short of sensational so far.

The Argentine has already bagged six goals in Serie A, making him the league’s top-scorer, and he has formed a prolific partnership with Goran Pandev to fire Lazio to the Italian summit.

Zarate is now hot property, but Lazio President Claudio Lotito has made it clear that he intends to sign the forward on a permanent deal.

"I plan to sign him permanently. There are no problems," the businessman told RAI TV.

Reports in Italy suggest that Lotito would have to cough up around €12m to make Zarate’s stay in the Italian capital permanent.

The youngster has already drawn comparisons to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, and there is a real belief that he can lead Lazio to great things this season.

Zarate targets national shirt
Wednesday 1 October, 2008
Lazio revelation Mauro Zarate expects a call-up to Argentina's national side if he continues to light up Serie A.

The young gun has been the star of the first month of the season and leads the scoring chart with six goals in five games.

“I'm staying calm and I don't think about statistics,” Zarate told Argentine newspaper Olé.

“The important thing is that the team is doing well and since pre-season I have seen a squad that can go far.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Delio Rossi because he asks me to help the defence but he allows me to attack as I like.

“On a personal level I think the call to the national side will come if I continue to do well.”

Zarate represented Argentina's Under-20 side five times but is yet to graduate to the senior team.

That would be great news.. to have two argentine stars (carizzo and zarate). Lotito would be stupid to let zarate fall through the cracks. He is an investment to this team. Its no wonder ticket sales are selling since the team is doing well ... a big thanks to him. I hope he keeps it up and keeps his goal/game average high.

Zarate Agent: Mauro Can Be The Best
Mauro Zarate's brother and agent, Sergio Zarate, has stated that his brother will become one of the best players in the world following his blistering start to the Serie A season...

In a vpoll conducted by Argentinian daily Ole, fans were asked to choose who they believed deserved to be called up to the Argentinian national team. Zarate topped the list due to his stunning start to his Lazio career.

Mauro Zarate heads the Serie A scoring charts at the moment with six goals in five top-flight encounters. The Argentinean striker has been nothing short of a revelation in the capital. He scored on his Serie A debut, a brace against Cagliari, before netting again on his Stadio Olimpico bow.

Then, in Lazio’s next game against Milan, Zarate scored again in one of the most important stadia in the world - San Siro. Last week, against Torino, he wrote his name on the scoresheet twice more, upping his market value and making his brother Sergio a very happy agent.

Commenting on his brother's success, the agent exclaimed, “I have always known it - I knew that he was a great player and I wanted the Italian fans to find out for themselves. His ability is formidable. He just needed a team like Lazio to show what he is capable of.”

His brother and agent concluded his evaluation of the player by saying, “His speed reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo. I think that in a few years Mauro can become on of the best players in the world.”

When I was watching the highlights from coppa match I was thinking that this guy could be the next big name next to C. Ronaldo. He seems to have everything .. dribbling, speed, and and eye for the net. I think he is due for a call-up to the Argentinian team as well, who will have a promising trio of messi, aguero and zarate.
