This was a nice read today from channel 4.

Baggio admires Zarate
Wednesday 15 October, 2008
Roberto Baggio gives his view on the current Serie A climate, Mauro Zarate, Catania and Francesco Totti’s injury woes.

Il Divin Codino is back in the spotlight following his appearance in a charity match last week in aid of his former Fiorentina teammate Stefano Borgonovo, who has been struck down with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease.

He was attending another charity event when asked about the state of Italian football right now.

“It is a very difficult League, as always. There are great surprises at the top of the table, as many teams have real technique and are confirming that in these opening weeks,” said Baggio.

“Walter Zenga is doing a fine job in charge of Catania and Udinese are also doing extremely well. I don’t know who might win the Scudetto, but clearly the battle remains between the usual suspects.”

After six rounds there is an unusual trio of teams leading the standings, as Udinese, Inter and Lazio are locked together.

To many in Serie A, Zarate was a surprise, but Baggio lives some of the time in Argentina and immediately thought Lazio’s signing was a smart move.

“He is a player of immense quality. You could see that when he was still playing for Velez and he has been talked about for a few years now.

“He has incredible technique and started on the right foot in Italy. This wonderful introduction will also help him in the future.”

Baggio battled for his entire career with injuries, right from the surgery aged 18 that almost terminated his professional chances.

With Totti making a slow recovery from knee ligament surgery, the veteran had some words of advice.

“When you undergo an operation, it is never easy to make a 100 per cent recovery. It takes time and, unfortunately, age also has to be taken into consideration.”

Totti is hoping to make his comeback in this Sunday’s Roma-Inter match.

I think Zarate will be one of the next big household names in football. I don't know why channel4 had to tarnish the article with totti's name.

Zarate in Lazio talks
Saturday 25 October, 2008
Mauro Zarate’s agent flies in to Rome today as Lazio try to secure his permanent signing as soon as possible.

The Argentine has had a stunning start to his Serie A career, scoring six goals since completing a loan move from Qatar outfit Al-Sadd.

Zarate’s agent (and brother) Sergio is expected in Italy later this afternoon to hold talks with President Claudio Lotito.

“I don’t see any problem. Mauro’s objective is to remain at Lazio for a long time,” he had said a few weeks ago.

The deadline for the Biancocelesti to buy out half Zarate’s contract is April 30, 2009, but they are eager to get in there early and ensure the deal is secure.

The original plan saw him loaned for one season at a cost of £1.7m, then the option to buy him outright over the course of three years for £14m.

Zarate has had the best start to a Serie A career of any foreign striker since Andriy Shevchenko first joined Milan.

I think he is picking up a bad habit of trying to diego maradona his way through the defense. I will say he wasn't that bad today though.

^^^ agree 100% Once you've beaten one and then two men pass the gd ball and give your team a chance to score. Today he exhibited the fact that he is still immature. He is a brilliant player but needs to learn to be a team player. Today, a couple of passes made early might have put us up early. He needs time to grow, and a couple games on the bench to watch Rocchi and pande' wouldn't hurt him.

Totally agree with you imperatorlativm. He don't know how to play in team and Lazio is all about team work. Too bad that rochhi was injured if it wasn't so I think we will see him on bench or at least in the middle.

Mihajlovic Full Of Praise For Zarate
Former Lazio stopper Sinisa Mihajlovic has spoken of all things Biancocelesti and he has hailed Mauro Zarate but insists the best is yet to come from the Argentine striker...
Zarate has been outstanding for his club so far this term but his prowess up front seems to have gone off track as his side have lost back-to-back games in Serie A.

Mihajlovic has spoken about his old side's moment as well as the Biancocelesti hit-man.

"Zarate? He is very strong," Mihajlovic told Radio Incontro.

"Obviously, after the first few games the opposition begin to take note of his characteristics and they start to take action.

"I think he still needs to learn about the Italian game and play more for the team. Despite all that, he is a great buy.

"To be honest I didn't really know much about him before he arrived at Lazio either.

"The team? I thought they were going to beat Bologna.

"However, the team needs to get back in it after the loss to Napoli but I think the games against Chievo and Catania could be the right occasion to bounce back."

Lazio have fallen behind slightly and they are four points off the pace heading into the game against Chievo later this evening.

Zarate is likely to partner Macedonian striker Goran Pandev up front as the club tries to get back on track.

He is fantastic and has great potential, but needs to develo[p much more maturity - both on the field and when he gets subbed. I think he's frustrated that he hasn't scored, but after the start he's had, he should have expected to be heavily marked and roughly challenged. Zarate kid has to rise above it.

Quote
(Agr)

In a nutshell, Zarate's agent and brother, says he will sign a five year del with Lazio and that his brother wants to stay in Rome. GdS also reported the same thing. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!
