Di Canio Calls Time On Career Italian striker Paolo Di Canio has announced his retirement from football
The 39-year-old, no stranger to controversies during his career, had spent the last two seasons playing in Serie C2/C with Cisco Roma.
Curva Nord Hero
But it was with one of the city's giants, SS Lazio, that Di Canio will always be most closely associated. A fan as a boy, he made his debut for the Biancocelesti in 1985, making 54 appearances and scoring four goals in five seasons with the club before moving on to Juventus in 1990.
He returned to Lazio in 2004, making a further 50 appearances in two campaigns and netting 11 times as he made a triumphant return to Italy following eight years in British football.
British Experience
After moving to Celtic in 1996 the striker then had two years at Sheffield Wednesday. At Hillsborough he was loved by the fans for his goalscoring exploits, but became loathed by the press for his now infamous shove on a referee in September 1998, something that netted him a lengthy ban from the game.
Di Canio then had four very successful seasons at West Ham United, helping the Irons to fifth one year and netting the prize for Goal of the Season in 2000, before a brief spell at Charlton Athletic. His career also included spells with Napoli and AC Milan.
Di Canio had been struggling with injuries of late and decided enough was enough, but has stated his intention to move into coaching. He has already been linked with a role in England at West Ham.

I wish that if he ever became a coach, he'd come back to Lazio.

I love paoletto but I think he wouldn't be healthy for the club.
I have a similar stance with having players who are fans vs. having players who can make a difference going back to when DiVaio wanted to come to Lazio.
However I WOULD welcome Giuseppe Signori who is on his way at becoming a coach.

I am a Glasgow Celtic fan and Paolo was one of our greatest players. The man played fantastic football and the Celtic fans loved his style, the man was a genius with the ball at his feet. You will never walk alone Paolo
