Tommaso Rocchi says he wants to stay, as long as the team is competitive:

?I think that my future is in Rome,? he insisted. ?If I had wanted to leave to win things I would have gone by now.

?I want to stay, even if I know that it will be difficult to win a Scudetto or a European trophy here.

?But there has to be the possibility of winning something and, like this year, the chance to play in Europe in the biggest stadiums. I don?t want words - I want actions.

?I just want what the fans want. I don?t think I?m asking the world. If the key players extend their contracts and there are good new signings then I am ready to extend my deal.?

Hopefully, the actions of the winter market are signes of things to come. Forza Lazio!

Can't blame him. As much as fans love players on their teams .. they are only to look for recognition or more money. The only person that can change this is Lotito .. and you're right if the next market is the same or better then we will see this team go places. I hope Lotito's expectations of where the team is headed can accommodate players with these expectations.

Did anyone else see the latest news on Tomasso Rocchi? According to a story posted on Lazio's Facebook Group and on goal.com, Rocchi has signed a life contract with Lazio, binding him to the club for the next five years, where he will be earning 1.3 million euros per year. Please say it is TRUE!

Rocchi gets Olympic call
Wednesday 2 July, 2008
It has been confirmed that Lazio striker Tommaso Rocchi will be the only overage player in Italy’s squad for the Olympic Games.

Azzurrini Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi will lead his side in search of gold in Beijing, but he is allowed to name three players over the age of 23.

Despite rumours suggesting that superstars such as Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero could be chosen, the only overage player will be 30-year-old Rocchi.

“Rocchi will help this team be competitive as they look to follow up their Toulon Tournament triumph at the Olympic games,” Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete confirmed.

Italy won the Toulon Tournament – an annual competition for Under-21 sides – at the end of May with Fiorentina’s Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 Final win over Chile.

Casiraghi’s side have been drawn in Group D for the Olympics and have been paired with the Republic of Korea, Cameroon and Honduras.

It starts in 4 weeks.
They will miss the lazio pre season and they will have to come back tired if they go far in the competition.
And we may have to worry about injuries.

I think this will put DeSilvestri in the spotlight.... I really have high hopes for him as a player. Both players are starters for us and vital .. we will need some good replacements while they're gone.

Rocchi's Olympic excitement
Monday 7 July, 2008
Lazio striker Tommaso Rocchi has expressed his delight at being selected as the only overage player in Italy’s Olympic squad.

Teams at the Olympic Games are allowed to pick up to three players who are over the age of 23.

However, Pierluigi Casiraghi is set to take his Azzurrini squad, fresh from glory at the Toulon Tournament, plus Rocchi.

“I am happy that Casiraghi has given me this opportunity,” Rocchi told the Corriere dello Sport.

“It is a great professional satisfaction given that I was selected as the overage player when there were so many candidates.

“I looked at the squad and I like it. It looks like a good group and I’m hoping I can help my teammates to improve.

“We know that we have what it takes to get on the podium and to take on such strong sides will be an added motivation.”

It is really good for him, although below what he deserves. I always thought he should be in the national team to euro 2008, he scored more goal that any azuri striker playing in Serie A.

Rocchi will not be the only star in the Olympics .. read below:

Serie A starlets in top 100
Monday 28 July, 2008
Respected Spanish magazine Don Balon has included nine Serie A players in its list of the top 100 youngsters in the world game.

As expected, Milan’s Brazilian international Alexandre Pato [pictured] and Inter wonder kid Mario Balotelli get a mention.

The Rossoneri have a second name in Under-19 international star Alberto Paloschi.

The only other Italian in the top 100 is Lazio defender Lorenzo De Silvestri, who could be a star at the Olympic Games this summer.

Napoli ace Marek Hamsik is included, along with Udinese’s highly rated Chilean prospect Alexis Sanchez.

Fiorentina’s Slovenian newcomer Stevan Jovetic is hoping to make a name for himself in Serie A this term and he is already seen as a great talent in Spain.

Belgian Under-21 international Anthony Vanden Borre failed to make an impression at Fiorentina in his first Italian campaign but still makes the list as he prepares to try and impress at Genoa.

Edison Cavani may leave Palermo and indeed Serie A this summer, but the Rosanero hitman also flies the flag for Italy for the moment.
