Lazio sign 'new Chivu'
Wednesday 25 June, 2008

Lazio have signed Romanian defender Stefan Radu on a permanent basis from Dinamo Bucharest.

The 21-year-old talent, known as ‘The new Cristian Chivu’, made a good impression during his 11 starts on loan last term.

And Radu has been rewarded with a full-time deal after Lazio agreed a £4.3m fee with Dinamo Bucharest President Vasile Turcu.

There had been reports in the Sunday Times back last month that Manchester United were considering an approach for the promising stopper, but no English interest materialised.

Lazio have also announced that they have extended the co-ownership agreement with Bologna for midfielder Mourad Meghni.

The French prospect will remain at the Stadio Olimpico next term.

Glad to have him part of the team.  00 00

Hopefully him and Moti will form a great pair as our central defense. I think we should have someone instead of Kolarov on the left and move him to the mid.

DeSilvestri - Moti - Radu - ???

Should be a drastic difference already in our defense.

This news keeps coming up and i hope this time is is truly sealed and finally done.

That radu guy is good, i hope he stay here for long and becomes an icon, hopefully over the years we will add more young and great guys to the squad.

I dont think he will get a permanent shirt in the centre if the defence, i think he will continue at left back where he played and did well last season battling it out with kolarov who i also think is a fine player and i like. But he should move upfield and get more playing time too instead of manfredigni, while moti will battle it out with cribari, silviglia and rozenhal in the middle.
I just hope this guys will play alot and develope.

I think siviglia will be benched .. it would be nice if we can just get rid of him entirely .. i think at 35 its time for him to go .. he's no maldini who turned 40 and can still compete with the best. If we want to have young team and work as the "arsenal project" we need to get rid of old timers like tare too (34 years old) and inzaghi (32 years old whos rumoured to come back).

I just hope the young guys prove themselves to the coach and all of us so there will be no need to use siviglia regularly.
Inzaghi? that will be a huge shit for him to come back.

Radu looks set to sign for 5 year 2 million Euro deal. Kind of (pleasantly) suprised by the amount.

Wow  thats IS cheap. We'll he is a valuable player and i'm glad we re-signed him.

I remember when we first signed him he came as a saviour cuz we needed a solid defender badly.

Sorry but as I tend to say with 5 year deals, doesn't mean we'll definitely have him for 5 more

The main bonus thing for this is what when he does eventually go we'll get a better price for him. Surely if a CL regular comes calling he'd want to leave. But then if he doesn't, so be it

He seems happy enough, so that'll do for me. Now for us to get Garrido or Cavanda in tip-top level so they can replace Stefan at LB and so we can put him at his better position in the middle (imo)...

This only tells me that Radu will leave us in during summer mercato. There is absolutely no reason at all why he should be paid 2m per season. However, we only talk about speculation here.

There is no speculation, really. Radu himself is happy at Lazio, does not want to leave, and his agent seems positive about the contract extension. I will honestly be surprised if the deal falls through.
