LAZIO, Zarate speaks out

In an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio's Argentine forward Mauro Zarate (22) said : "I am very happy in Italy and at Lazio. I want to keep on improving and become a real star for my club. I hope we will soon be able to compete for the Serie A title and become Champions League contenders. I would gladly remain at Lazio forever".

Thats the best thing i have heard this week.

Zamp sets Simplicio price

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini will sell Fabio Simplicio to Lazio as long as they give him Goran Pandev in return.

Simplicio is attracting a lot of interest after a brilliant season in Rosanero and Zamparini wants to get as much for him as possible.

“I am dealing with two German teams and Fenerbahce. I have told the Turks it will take £8m, but if Lazio President Claudio Lotito were to come and sit at the table we could close a deal for £5m or £7m,” Zamparini said.

“I would like to bring Pandev to Palermo, but I think that he prefers a team superior to ours. I believe that he is one of the best talents in Serie A, but he wants £2m a season and I can't guarantee him that amount.

“If Lazio want Simplicio or if they are interested in some other players, who could be included in a deal for Pandev, we can speak,” Zamparini concluded.

poor zarate has become dillusional. This team finished 10th in the league, unless drastic moves are made in the market we can expect to ONLY be fighting for the last two spots of uefa at best. Teams like napoli and genoa will be our competition if we don't try and do better than them in the transfer market.

I haven't heard anything about those guys but I'll take em if Lazio are ever willing to sign em 09

Ledesma is pretty much already gone, so is Pandev...
We need big players to replace them and strenghten the squad at the same time...

We need big name players here but on a budget, the hope now is that zarate will become the superstar on an international level and attract other signings particularily Argentinian players.  But it is true that if this team plays at a neutral level in the next couple of years or so an offer and a lack of motivation could make him change his mind.  What has been surprising is the speed that Genoa Napoli and Palermo have gone into the market and picked up quality players.  Really Crespo should have been an easy signing and we need some depth if there will be any success next year in both competitions.

i think the uncertainty of the Pandev and Ledesma situations is holding us up a bit. I'd like to hear more names to beef up the defense.

Even with Pandev and Ledesma here next season the D still needs help but I guess they need to know where funds stand at the end but hopefully won;t linger for the entire summer.

Marcus Berg scored two great goals vs England at the u-21 EC. He dreams of playing for Lazio and I'm starting to hope that we sell Pandev and get him instead (15 mills for Pandev, 15 mills for Berg). Lugano, yes, Banega, maybe, Coloccini, NO. Did you guys not see him with Newcastle last season? They want 10 millions for him and that would be a costly mistake I'm afraid.

Lugano's agent says he hasn't spoken to Lazio and does not think Lugano will play for Lazio

Not much news at all of a centre back, and I wonder whether this is because its time for Tuia to take his position in the side. After all he is 19 now a regarded as a huge talent. Parallels with Nesta will always be drawn and Nesta made his first meaningful season of 23 games in 95/96 season aged the same age. Personally I would like to see this happen, with him and Diakite mixing it alongside a more experienced defender at the back. Could solve a lot of problems, and honestly I cant see why we did not see more of him in the closing stages of this season as after the coppa there really was nothing to play for.

Tuia will be loaned out for the season - he's not ready for the serie a just yet. As will either Mendocino or Kozak.
