Zarate Kid: I Want Two Goals Against Roma
New Lazio signing Mauro Zarate is confident he can be a big hit in the Italian capital, and has set his sights on scoring two goals against Roma.
The Biancocelesti made their biggest signing of the summer when they snapped up the skillful 21-year-old from Al-Sadd in a deal that could eventually cost Lazio up to €25m.
The transfer has delighted Lazio President Claudio Lotito, who even declared that “Zarate is better than [Barcelona superstar] Lionel Messi."
Despite the pressure, the Argentine, who has already been nicknamed by some as ‘The Zarate Kid’, in reference to the famous martial arts film starring Ralph Macchio, is promising big things.
“I dreamed of playing in Italy and I am happy to have arrived at Lazio,” said Zarate.
“Plenty of teams wanted me, but no one made as much effort as the Biancocelesti. I want to repeat what I have done in Argentina and I aim to score two goals against Roma.
“I know that this can be a difficult environment but I’m not scared. I am a good dribbler, I can play from deep and I can exploit my pace.”
Zarate is the youngest of five footballing brothers, with the eldest, Sergio, playing in Italy with Ancona in the 1992/93 season.

Zarate ready to lift Lazio
Friday 11 July, 2008
Argentine young gun Mauro Zarate is set to begin life at Lazio and he claims that he can live up to the hype.
The 21-year-old striker arrives on loan and President Claudio Lotito [pictured] has greeted his signature with huge enthusiasm.
The Biancocelesti chief is sure that Zarate will be a star and has promised to “build a side around him”, but the new boy doesn’t seem to be feeling the pressure.
“I dreamed of playing in Italy and I am happy to have arrived at Lazio,” he said.
“Lots of teams wanted me, but nobody made as much effort as the Biancocelesti.
“I want to repeat what I have done in Argentina and I want to score two goals against Roma.
“I know that this can be a difficult environment but I’m not scared. I am a good dribbler, I can play from deep and I can exploit my pace.”
